Default Very little crime in TV

I never see any posts about unsafe areas or
crime in TV.

This really is paradise.

How many gated areas are in TV?

All gated.

However, gates are easily opened or guards let 99% pass.

Default Using the term gated as regards the ones in TV

is a complete inaccurate, mis nomer.
There are no gated area in TV. At best they could be referred to as traffic modulators.
Access to or in any villages property is wide open to anybody that is awake!

Default Crime in TV

Just be sure to keep your doors and windows locked......

Break-ins, what's your theory?

Wouldn't you or shouldn't you do that everywhere?

Bogie -
Definitely, but...
according to some bloggers in the past, many residents new to TV didn't think locked doors and windows were necessary here assuming gated meant safety.

Default I'm not worried.

I am an incurable optimist. Last summer there was much said about golf carts being stolen from the squares and they caught the guy who was doing it and that was that. I think they will catch whoever is doing the break ins. Just to reemphasize that we seem to be a place with a lot of moral folks...my friend lost her purse out of the golf cart the other day and someone found it and called her son with her cell phone and the purse was returned.

This is NOT Orlando.

Sumter police said the Villages is ONE OF THE SAFEST communities in this area, but even the Villages is NOT safe enough.

I live in Tall Trees and we have had two time periods where homes were robbed on the road right in front of the pool and postal building. Just a little way from the gate.

We need to lock all doors and windows when we are not home and even when you are home, you must be aware of your surroundings. Tall Trees most recent robbery took place while the owners were taking an afternoon nap!!!!!!!

We are our own best deterrent from crime. If you see anyone or any vehicle that is in the neighborhood for a period of time and you don't recognize them, call the local police/sherrif. Better safe than sorry. Pay attention, expecially at night.

Don't expect to see all crimes that occur in the Villages to be in the Daily Sun. It won't happen.

Please, don't think of this as a "gated community". We are not qualified as a gated community. Anyone can gain access by just pushing the button at the unmaned gates. Most vendors have many gate passes/cards.

Please recognize that even the gates that are manned, have mostly Village residents working the gate and they are NOT there to deter crime. Your neighborhood Watch is not a deterrent to crime either.

You are the only deterrent to crime by keeping your eyes and ears open!!!

All cities/towns I've lived in (including some smaller than TV), there are areas I simply refuse to consider walking/riding through, they're known for crime and danger. I don't feel that anywhere in TV.

Sure, keep your doors locked, be aware, etc. but it's not a crime ridden environment by any means.

Just curious (again) don't live in TV yet. Is it unusual or uncommon for homeowners to have a security system, auto 911 dial, alarms etc?
Thanks

Default Not where I live.( Newer village)

I would say, judging from the people I know on my street...maybe 12 houses. Unusual and uncommon.

Default My Great grandparents ...........

Sorry but again, I am the odd man out. My Great grandparents never locked their doors and left their windows open (course back then there was no AC.) Nor did my Grandparents, nor did my parents. Ergo neither do I. I guess the reasoning was .... you lock your house there must be something of value in it.
I was a kid growing up in Illinois, I don't believe I ever knew of someone locking up the house unless it was time for a vacation.

Neat bumper sticker. Went like this: "It's God's job to judge terrorists. Our job is to arrange the meeting!"

Be a gentleman, remove your hat/cap when entering a building and dining out!
