Default Termite Contracts - Gotta Have or Nice to Have?

For those of you who have been in TV for a few years.... do you maintain a current termite protection contract? Have you heard of any houses within TV with termite infestation? Block, frame, manufactured? Have you had a contract all along or did you wait until after the first 4 or 5 years passed (since the builder was supposed to have treated the lot with 5 year protection to begin with).

I'm trying to determine if it's a necessary and worthwhile expense. It's only $99/year with the same company that did the original treatment but is it really necessary?

Thanks for sharing your experiences...

As I understand it, the termite treatment that was done when they were building our homes was a soak in the ground to keep termites out of the site. I have talk to a lot of people in the almost two years we have been here and no one has had a termite problem. That being said, it is warm and humid here and some parts of Florida are known for termite problems.

We had one company the first year and did not renew. We hired Massey Services this year and we are very happy with their service. They treat the entire yard and surrounding areas and leave little bug buster boxes in the garage. Knock on wood, we have yet to see any type of insect, etc. in or home or on our property.

Now, we do have those little gekkos and they don't bother me. They kill little bugs.

I wouldn't be without a pest contact. Others may disagree but I am a better safe then sorry kind of person.

it might help you to know the paradise rec center in the villages was visibly infested with termites prior to it's recent renovation.

Having lived in Florida for over twenty-three years I can assure you it is quite foolish not to have termite coverage. They can show up anytime, anywhere. I have lived in two new houses in Tampa. Both were cement block and stucko. Both eventually came down with Termites. Termite sevice, coverage, and free inspection resulted in no additional cost to treat and get rid of before serious damage occurred. If you are not aware of existence of termites, they can distroy a house in no time.

RayB and others....thanks for your experiences and advice; I will definitely re-up with Massey for termite coverage. Just needed a little reassurance from others who have lived in Florida/TV longer than I have.
