You said a mouthful Gracie.

In answer to the original post about new villages, we just got back from a ride down Buena Vista toward Brownwood. At the NEW entry gate to the NEW village of Pinellas (sp?) there were no "KEEP OUT" signs so we drove way back and found several Premier homes being built. Upwards of 10.

That is all I know.

My husband had neurosurgery a couple years ago at Munroe Regional in Ocala. While being examined by the nurse prior to surgery she asked: "Do you feel safe at home?" We both had a blank look, then he said, "Well yes, I live in The Villages!"

Afterwards it occurred to me that they were referring to hazards and possible domestic violence at home, not where we live. But that's how we see The Villages, a safe place to live.

It is very safe in The Villages. I take walks at midnight sometimes. I drive my golfcart on the multimodal trails at night and I am usually by myself from start to finish on the trails, I walk early in the morning around 5. I never would have done that in the D.C. 'burbs where I moved from.

98% of the Villagers are great friendly people and a pleasure to be around. The talk of gun totin' old folks, falling down drunks, and fistfights over chairs on the town squares are fiction just like the Mr. Midnight and the STD rate in the "Leisureville" book.

Wow this thread went so far off topic because someone thinks that a neighborhood (Wildwood) has some issues that will migrate into new homes south of 466A.

That comment was not substantiated by any facts only the posters individual perception that crimes will occur because of its proximity to Wildwood.

Yet there are already a bunch of homes built and occupied there.
Anyone report theft, assault etc. I guess not or you folks would have said something.

This is a link to a great colored map of the future plans for Brownwood. I hope the link works. I got it from this site a while back. Next village is Gilchrist and then Pinellas. The link shows all the villages, golf courses, and rec centers.
Crime? If you put all of the crime in lady lake, Wildwood, and Fruitland Park together, it would not total that from which many of us came. If you take that walk down the street in Wildwood, and smile, the people will smile back! The people running the Ace hardware on Main street are the nicest people you could know. There are many poor people there and they are grateful for the villages and the income it provides. Please do not paint a picture that will not likely be true. There is some crime everywhere, but it is very minimal here and in the surrounding areas as well. It is old world Florida--poor but friendly and mostly respectful.

skyc6, your link doesn't work - - - at least it didn't for me.

Is this the map you're referring to? http://www.sumtercountyfl.gov/Docume....aspx?DID=3350 (It might take a while to load - only one page but lots and lots of detail.)

Bill :)

Well said.
I sure hope Buggyone has read this post.

Yes, Bill! Thanks so much for helping me with that! I hadn't put in the complete link. I found it an interesting map to study, really, and time will tell if it all comes to pass exactly as it is pictured. I just want to hope that people come to appreciate all we have here, and Brownwood has been designed after Old World Florida, which is what these surrounding small towns are. There are some lovely people and places there, and I don't think much to fear! I am sending hellos to Brillo...we'd love to see you again sometime, as well as Gracie, Sweetie, and Helene! :coolsmiley:

skyc6 05-08-2012 07:44 AM

Thanks, Bogey Shooter! I hope so, too! Again, it is just my opinion, so far, but I live near there and have no regrets, at all. Happy to be here!

graciegirl 05-08-2012 08:33 AM

That is one great map...even though it has a disclaimer at the bottom such as proposed or something like that.

We should all download it and store it in favorites for future reference.

I think that it is awesome how this place grows right in front of you.

Just look at the network of thousands of homes and hundreds, thousands of streets....but what you can't see are the folks that live in those places.

I hope everyone of them is having a wonderful day. :a040:

skyc6 05-08-2012 08:50 AM

Me, too, Gracie! If you keep enlarging it, it kind of "blooms" right in front of you with names and rec centers and golf courses. It is dated from 2010, so it is a plan and not a promise, however, we have taken golf cart rides down that way and Gilchrist and Pinellas are already there, and many other things are started. There is a rec center named Bradenton which is started also. It will be fun to watch it all come to life, and I bet that is what it was like in the early days of TV! Like watching a dream unfold. Gotta love it--and hellos to Sweetie and Helene!:icon_wink:
