I have noticed a peculiar smell near running water and particularly when coffee is brewing. Plus, the taste of coffee seems to match the smell. I had attributed this to either my aging or as a result of a head cold.

Neither my wife nor my son had noticed a difference. Yesterday, we tasted tap water verse bottled water and all selected the bottled water as better.

This morning, I brewed the coffee using bottled spring water and I didn't notice the odor and the coffee tasted much better to my wife and myself.

Partly in jest, I am wondering if this is part of getting old and cantankerous, or is this noticeable to others?

Our water had a horrible odor and taste when we moved here. Anytime we made coffee, tea, boiled pasta it wasn't good. We bought a water filtration system. No more bad taste or smell.

Just about every morning when I first wake up and turn the water on no matter what Fossett the water is coming out of it has A bad odor smell and a strong odor of sulfur. And then this morning for the first time when I tasted the water it tasted like heavy minerals such as zinc magnesium iron and so forth that you would normally smell and taste in well water.

I see the results of excessive chlorine water treatment, as I navigate thru the Roundabouts…at our age , it’s to late for a water filter!

Water out of the tap is not pleasant. Most folks have some kind of water treatment system or filtration to make the water better. Even many restaurants have trouble brewing a good cup of coffee or tea.

Agree, tap water is nasty. That being said, we are totally spoiled by the water at our home up north. Nothing like having you own private 350 foot deep well that pumps out 10 gallons per minute of delicious crystal clear untreated water. I ran the numbers and determined it’s most economical for us to use gallon jugs of drinking water from Publix at the Villages rather than paying for the cost of a whole house water treatment filtration system and replace the filters annually. Someday if we are full time I might spring for the system.

Up north, excellent water, historic side, City of Lady Lake water, Fruitland Park Villages, Fruitland Park City Water, Wildwood part of the Villages, City of Wildwood water, Leesburg portion of the Villages uses City of Leesburg water. Each municipality treats there water to government standards, but the water itself comes from various sources and places where mineral content is different, therefore the water tastes different. All are chlorinated most have added fluoride. You get a mailed water quality statement every year listing everything in your areas water which is required by the federal government, read it and you'll know exactly what you're drinking.

My only concern is if our water in The Villages has added Fluoride. On another TOTV thread it was stated that our water here in The Villages does not have Fluoride. Which is it? Yes or no Fluoride?

the first day down from the north the water does have a slight smell in the bathroom without filtered water. After being here more than a day or two, i don't smell it. . acclimated. . .

However, we use filtered water from the refrigerator for everything.

Calcium level is high due to the limestone in the area.

When we moved here several years ago we immediately noticed the high chlorine level and the hardness of the water. I have had Sears water softeners for several decades, so we had Sears water softener and whole house filter installed, and that was the end of the bottled water, saved a bundle. The units we have are approaching end of life, so I will be in the market for new and will be looking at a combo unit.

What is a combo unit?

Switched to running at 2am, less running of sprinklers, better air quality. Granted it not potted water, but still nothing good can come from something that smells that bad.

Believe irrigation systems are not the issue. It is the potable tap water from faucets. I agree that water seems to have changed recently. We use tap water for coffee and recently noticed different taste. Same coffee, same recipe (strength). A puzzlement as Yul woul say

Ladidi 11-09-2022 06:44 AM

We did the very same last week because the water quality was not good.

Get a whole house water filter. We installed Nova filter system. Immediately had water that did not smell or taste like chlorine. Great company right here in He Villages.

Soaps/detergents/shampoos were not sudsy and we had a smell and the taste was horrible. The water filters ($600) seam to help quite a bit!

add cinnamon to your coffee bean when brewing

joelfmi 11-09-2022 08:25 AM

Go to Home Depot and get a taste and ordure water filter system and your troubles will be addressed

OrangeCrush 11-09-2022 05:14 PM

It's Florida water and known not to be the best water to consume straight from the tap without going through a water filtration system.

Yeah, but it makes some amazing freekin' Kool-Aid. Especially the red stuff!

We have found that much of the water here in FL tastes like crap. the first thing we did after buying the house was installing a water softener to eliminate ALL of that, chemicals, minerals, and everything else.

The only noticeable bad thing was having to add chlorine tabs to the toilet to prevent mold . Thus telling you the water has a high chlorine content if no filter is added to system.

When you go out to eat, order a glass of water. You will find out quickly who has unfiltered water.

Many people will say the water tastes fine but, for many of us, good clean tasting water is noticeable when there is a lack of.

Warning to everyone here:
No matter which water you prefer, be sure to use a mouth rinse containing fluoride every day. The water in this area is /not/ fluoridated, and neither is bottled water of any kind.

Normally you'd get fluoride from the tap water in most communities.

If you wonder why so many people have bad teeth, bad breath, and why dentists are on every corner in every strip mall in the Villages - that's why. Old age doesn't cause tooth decay. But fluoride can help prevent it.

I’d suggest you research the effects of fluoride on water and other products. It’s based on erroneous Science a d it very toxic to humans.
