We have been Floridians for many years and my husband hates to wear long pants so he wore his shorts today. He says he comfortable. :super:

Talk about cold.....

56! Bring on the tank tops and shorts! Here in Upstate NY it's 16 with a wind chill of 1. We had a polar swim here on New Year's Day where 2000 people went for a dip in Lake George. I would guess the water temp was about 40-50. I can't wait until I move to TV and I can say that 56 is cold! Enjoy!

Nicknames were part of my growing up like "Louie The Hat". He was never seen in public without his hat. Sometimes I never knew the real name of the person.

Must be a New Yawk, thang!!!!

Sorry, back to the thread. Some people have a higher tolerance for the colder weather temperatures. I know it's not me. :)

19 degrees today, real feel 4 degrees in CT.

uh oh, my hubbie has Alzeimers! He won't wear long pants unless we are going out to dinner someplace nice (not a sports bar) or if it's actually storming outside with cold temps. He WILL wear a sweatshirt or coat.

Balmy Upstate NY at 16 degrees. In Ontario today, it's 3 degrees.:cold: If you wear shorts, you get freezer burn on your knees.

I saw a guy in a kilt and a sweater playing Yankee Clipper early this morning.

For me, wearing shorts is not determined by cold temps alone but by cold temps accompanied by wind. But the again, even in the Summer I generally won't wear shorts to dinner unless the restaurant is a really, really informal locale.

Omg

It was a blizzard yesterday and waaaaay below 36 here in SW Ontario(-10C) Even had to put on the long underwear. Maybe your days are high enough for shorts for some hardy snowbirds from Canada but that ain't me! I won't go swimming until it is at least 80 out without a breeze. I'm hoping that March will be warm.

Shorts?! We saw people in swimsuits swimming one day this week and it was 42 degrees outside.

Feeling cold is relative. Shackelton and his men, wrecked and lost in the Antarctic, rejoiced in the balmy warmth of 39 degrees F.

All through out the holiday season we could instantly recognize the newbies/visitors by their dress or lack of it. "I'm in Florida dammit and I WILL wear shorts and tees". Probably didn't pack other options.... "I WILL get a tan before going home"

How do I know this? Not so long ago I was one of 'em! Being full time changes your blood and the cold effects us more than ever. Before we would visit for a few days escaping brutal cold up north. 60 degrees here felt like heaven but to my mom (who was bundled up in heavy coats) it was nasty cold. NOW I know what she felt and why she always asked "aren't YOU cold?"

We have had huricane force winds and mid 40's for the past few days here on the south coast of England, hubby still walks the dogs in shorts, and I am in capri pants. Only wear long when snow or frost is on the ground!

A year ago this month, my father entered the hospital in Sarasota for what would be his final visit.

As he was being evaluated a nurse said, "only in Florida would a 96-year-old man come to the hospital in January wearing shorts."

Sounds like she was still getting used to Florida.
