According to the articles written about the Fruitland Park meeting, about 200 area residents attended. I'm curious that the following subject seems not to have been brought up either by the officials presenting the detailed agreement between TV and Fruitland, or the audience:

Fruitland Park was recently declared a "Golf Cart Friendly Community." When The Villages builds homes that will double the size of the town, will golf carts be able to access TV from Fruitland?

If there is any access to the area occupied by TV homes, it means folks who pay no TV amenities will be able to use TV multi-modal paths. If Fruitland Park folks cannot drive a cart into TV it means the town will likely be split in half by a wall.

Anyone know if a decision has been made?

is the village of fruitland park part of the Villages? The reason I ask is that it is being called The village of Fruitland park not the Villages. If it is going to be a whole separate Village will they be using The Villages golf courses and pools and or rec centers like we do ? I am hoping that Fruitland park is not part of The villages and that this is just a small retirement community. I know it will be beautiful because the Morse family has really done a great job here. It would just be nice not to have all the extra traffic especially at colony. It has been crazy at colony it feels like the snowbirds have been here all summer. I think it would have been better had sweatbay opened when south of 466 was being built. That has added so much traffic and I feel sorry for the people at that end they have had to travel to get to a store it should ease soon with sweatbay opening soon. Just in time for the snowbird traffic. I wonder if some of us sound like the people that lived here before us and they watched the villages growing. I would like to see The villages build out end soon but see the developer continue building beautiful retirement places like this. Even going into The Village of Ocala etc. Brings jobs to the area and a beautiful retirement community, but enough building here.

Everyone and anyone has access to the multi-modal paths right now.

Patience, I say patience, grasshoppers!

Rumors are so wild on this forum.

It will be just fine, thought out, well managed. WHY do some people practically salivate to put the Morses down??????? WHY????

Gracie, although we have not met. I must say you have put together yet another wonderful reply. Naysayers abound and you manage to politely set them straight. Thank you, we do have a wonderful setting in which to live.

I don't think things are as apocalyptic as you describe. The world is not coming to an end.

The new SweetBay, Walgreen's, MVP Fitness Center, Citizens Bank, and all the other new restaurants, stores, churches, and recreation centers are opening just in time.

People in the southernmost section of The Villages are lucky that they can travel quickly to Leesburg for shopping, hospital and doctors.

Apocalyptic? I don't think so. Of course the world is not coming to an end, but many on here seem to think that never-ending growth is a good thing and makes things better. I don't share that opinion. If I did I never would have left the Northeast with its suburban sprawl and traffic congestion. Track the number of complaints that people have on this board about various things being too busy (even from the most ardent cheerleaders) and then tell me how this expansion will make any of it better.

What has happened is that The Villages has purchased about half of the land in the town of Fruitland Park and has reached an agreement with the town to develop the land with typical Villages homes. Lots of questions about the details of this agreement have been made public, but I am trying to find out if the current Fruitland Park residents will be able to enter the other half of their town where The Villages homes will be.

Thank you, I guess we will see what happens.

The Morse's have had plenty of time to mess up The Villages since the initial phase. It hasn't happened yet, so I'm not sure why some think a new expansion will make it happen now. And TV is nothing like...and will not likely ever be like...the unrestrained sprawl of large urban areas.

Even with the typical good planning that they do, can anyone clearly lay out how their personal enjoyment of the Villages will get better with an additional 4,000 people coming in (on top of the other thousands of people that have been added since the "Final Phase" master plan was submited to the county)? However, I can think of a lot negatives - especially for those of us in the Colony area.

better? as a resident on the north side of the villages in the original historic area - life may not necessarily get better, but I don't see it getting worse...will still have all of the same amenities that I take advantage of now - and likely with the same number of folks that use them now! all of that development south of 466a gives me a greater appreciation for life in the historic neighborhoods! :)

I agree. Those who live to the north will have the least impact. However, you still will have to deal with more competition for Savannah Center tickets and seats in Katie Bells and increased traffic that, even though concentrated in the new areas, will spill over into all sections of TV. While tee times are also a limited commodity, those in the North will probably have the least impact since people are most inclined to play closer to where they live.

njbchbum - interesting post - I think those of us living close to 466a feel the crunch of all the development south and now we are looking to more development to the tune of 2000+ homes on 466a and wonder where are we all going to shop, golf, and drive on the same roads. I believe as TV developed so did the commercial to go along with it.
466 is a hotbed of commercial activity, but we are not really seeing that and it is a concern for us. Hopefully "if you build it they will come" will also apply to the commercial factor - if not The Villages will be a challenge rather than a lifestyle.

It's not even October yet and my Monday golf foursome has been turned down for a tee time. We requested 7:30-noon at 15 executive courses and were still turned down!

champion6 09-27-2013 10:16 PM

mac9, how is this related to growth that hasn't even occurred? Please start a new thread.
