Here's the PDF from the CDD: https://www.districtgov.org/PDFView/...20200429001301

There are lots of guidelines and rules about what you can and can't do, on that PDF. Wearing masks is not among them EXCEPT for the notice that masks, gloves, water, hand sanitizer, and equipment will -not- be provided.

I don't get the rec news, I don't get the Daily Sun, and whenever I try to follow a link to the Rec News section of the Daily Sun online I get a black PDF with no text.

That's because they are in the business of selling subscriptions !!

It's not May 4 yet is it? Perhaps on May 4 those signs will be taken down.

And as far as I know, no one is being instructed to wear masks while they're walking at the parks (which are run by the rec centers), or on the executive courses.

Regarding mulligan's post about buying subscriptions: If there is something important that the rec centers need residents to know, it needs to be made accessible to ALL residents. Not just the ones who pay extra for a subscription to the local newspaper. If they need for me to see the Rec News, then they should have a website dedicated to the Rec News. Not a subdirectory of a paid subscription site.

Or they can accept that some people just won't have access to this information - which implies that they didn't think it was all THAT important afterall.

As I said twice already: when I click on that link, I get a black PDF file with nothing on it.

Turn off your ad blocker and it will work. I had to do this to see it.

NoMoSno 05-03-2020 09:11 AM

...and I have my adblocker on, and can see it just fine.

Clothing is also required. And I'm pretty sure they mean that you can't just carry it.

Thanks. It worked. No one else has suggested that, and I hadn't even considered it since I can see the Daily Sun online just fine - and other website PDF files - just not that PDF file.

So now I see that page claiming that masks are required for indoor and outdoor activities. It is still a present-tense thing, I don't know that they're going to require swimmers to wear masks covering their noses and mouths while swimming.

It ALSO says on the page before that, that people need to wash their hands every 20 minutes, and wear masks, AND cover their mouth with a tissue when they sneeze or cough.

Apply some logic and ask the logical question here: how can I cover my mouth with a tissue in order to sneeze or cough, while I have a mask covering my face? And how can I wash my hands every 20 minutes while I'm playing golf, and the water coolers are closed down? Answer: I can't. Therefore - these "rules" are flawed, and poorly thought out. Does that mean I shouldn't wear a mask? No. It means someone screwed up when they came up with the rules, and they need to revisit with a more logical approach.

My take on it: if I'm involved in outdoor activities that make it difficult to social distance, then I should wear a mask while engaging in that outdoor activity.

AND

I should carry tissues with me so that if I feel the need to sneeze or cough, I can cover my mouth, without having to wear a mask the entire time, in a situation when I'm not having any trouble social distancing.

AND

if I'm engaged in an activity that has a rest room nearby (such as the horseshoe court next to the Paradise postal station), I should expect to wash my hands every few turns. If I'm not in close proximity to a bathroom, I should bring hand sanitizer and use that instead.

Golfers shouldn't have to wear masks as long as they are maintaining a respectful distance from each other. Swimmers shouldn't be wearing masks, unless they're snorkel masks (which do cover their eyes, nose, and mouth).

Good luck with that! LOL

Please be very careful.
Corona virus is sneaky.
It knows the difference between a grocery store with 200 patrons and a hair salon with 10.

Spike380 05-03-2020 06:12 PM

No clubs before June 1st.

Snorkels have the swimmer inhaling and exhaling through a "tube" into the air above the water so there is no difference between wearing a snorkel and not wearing a snorkel. I honestly don't think TPTB think of a snorkel as a mask that they refer to in their social distancing guide lines.

biker1 05-04-2020 06:32 AM

I am not sure what you are reading but the Rec guide from April 30th (that outlines the reopening of the amenities) says to wash your hands frequently, for 20 seconds. I have not seen anything that suggests you wash your hands every 20 minutes.

Stop. Think.

In the grocery we aren't up close and personal, not even at check out as we are when someone is cutting our hair. OR as close as a waitress who is handling the plate with our food on it. Did she wash her hands after removing the plates from the table that is six feet from us?

Friends went to Orange Blossom on March 17th, ten of them. The waitress was sniffing. Six in the group became sick. My friends, one was in intensive care for ten days and the other was so sick at home that a friend moved in with her. She became so dehydrated at one point she had to be taken by ambulance to emergency for six hours to be rehydrated. They are younger than us. They are very active.

I wish we knew more about the cases of people who have contracted it here in The Villages. This is the only instance of anyone I know who has contracted the virus.

Does anyone else know anyone personally? Obviously I can't vouch it was Covid-19. I certainly do not fault the waitress or the restaurant. I do believe that it very well have been Covid-19, but I am just grateful our friends are slowly recovering.

We all have been told that it spreads very easily from one human to another. We all know that the older we are the more deadly it is. These two are at least ten years younger than us.

I just heard this from them yesterday. I got a call from them. This is someone we know well and have known for several years. They are friends who have visited our home many times and we have dined with them and we have visited their home. I trust that what they told me is truthful. They live in the older section of The Villages.

I do. The waitress should have called in sick if she had the "sniffles", and the management should have sent her home when they noticed her.

This was March 17th. I can't remember at what phase of warnings we were at locally or nationally. I know our daughter and granddaughter were visiting us a few days before, and that very shortly after their visit is when the whole thing became evident to be a real crisis. My daughter and granddaughter who are usually very wise indeed, sort of dismissed my concern. I was very nervous when they flew back to New York City and to London early in March.

It took awhile before the warnings and the airline shut downs and the confusion about what to do. I remember that our granddaughter was going to fly to the Keys with a friend about a week after she visited here and decided to cancel it. Does anyone remember exactly when the quarantine began here?

I think that was just about the time that various restrictions were coming out. However, the virus was a known entity and common sense should have applied

MichiganKid 05-04-2020 10:01 PM

No common sense

Sad, that our society is this ignorant. Your right, we can go into a store or retail business with sixty or more people but dont be outdoors on a pickleball court with four people occupying a 20x44 foot area, or playing golf.. look at the stats folks, more people are dying from COPD, influenza/pneumonia. The numbers there showing you are very false. You will see how political this virus was in the future news...
