When we first moved to the Villages in 2005 in the recreation news once a month it showed the new residents by home town and state. I would always look at this to see whether any friends from NJ had moved here as well as possible former class mates. I really liked this and found it very informative. They stopped this practice about 3 or so years ago. I went to the customer service office to try to ascertain why this feature was stopped. They told me that people complained about having this information published. I think that was a cop out on their part. The cessation of this feature sort of went along with the decline in sales here. Don't know if that was the cause.

Maybe the complaints were coming from The Witness Protection Program. "Hey Vito - errr, errr, - Xavier is that you?" :police:

Although having a telephone book with listings by state would be convenient and, even yet, having an electronic version the user could manipulate and search would be even better. However, most phone books, as heavy and archaic as they are, provide profits through advertisements and because of this, they are not likely to go away anytime soon. I'm really surprised there are still companies willing to pay advertising money in such an archaic tool as the phone book.

Like the rotary dialed phone, the next generation may be baffled when we show them the good old 5 pound phone book.

Until something different comes along, I'll continue to recycle any phone book delivered and use the Internet to find the information I'm looking to get.

My real intention when posting this thread, was to have names in alphebetical order, broken down into states, just to see if there were friends or people we knew from our own state. Actually the phone numbers don't have to be listed. It was just an idea, when I listed my name in "THe Villages" phone book. After seeing the phone book now, and how they listed the names with the state they came from, I thought if they could just reverse it some how, they could list states with names in alphebetical order? I'm not that savvy with electronic age, but nice to know all people from different states!!bigbow::a040::welcome:

Names, change/delete

Anyone know who or how to get my deceased husband's name & number deleted from the phone book so I can add my new spouse's name & number?
Thanks

We started getting bombarded with telephone directories, six I think. I called The Villages Administration to ask if there was a central recycling place where I could drop them off. I was told to put them in the garbage. Not in recycling. In the garbage.

Contact The Villages Media Group (352) 753-1119. They should be able to route you to the proper person who can help you.

Wouldn't it be nice if The Villages could reverse all the names in the phone book by states. Seems to me in this computer age, (of course I don't know how!! hehe) that if they could hit a button, and all the names would come out in alphebetical order by the state they came from. That would be nice to know, I think? Agree??:mmmm:

I recieved a phone book about a month ago that list everyone by name, by street and by state. Was published by Data Publishing, Publisher of TV Phone directory for 15 years.

That would be great as long as it's computerized and not killing any more trees. Maybe we could have our own social network like they do a universities. Each resident can enter all the information they want to share.
