The Villages is a retirement community that constitutes the bulk of the population of Sumter County. Just 34.5% of the population aged 16 to 64 works in full-time, year-round jobs, the smallest share of any U.S. metro area.

For the minority of workers who work full-time, many work in the low-paying jobs in the retirement industry. Some 25.0% of workers are employed in education and health services, and 9.5% are employed in leisure and hospitality — each among the largest share of any city. The average wage for workers in the education and health services and leisure and hospitality sectors are $835 and $405 a week, respectively, far less than the $1,101 average pay for all workers nationwide.

I believe TV has another #1 distinction, as having the oldest median age of any community in the country, even in Florida, at 70.9. That brings in a lot or retirement bucks to be spent. Without The Villages presence I imagine Sumter County would have one of the lowest median incomes for age-under-65 working people in the country, certainly far lower than it is now. http://worldpopulationreview.com/us-...fl-population/

2. The bar is set at 55 and not 64 for those living in The Villages. MOST people living in the Villages are retired and don't have to work. Most 16-year-olds still live with their families, haven't even entered the work force yet, and therefore shouldn't be counted at all in this. In fact, most 18-year-olds don't have full time work either because they have a) just graduated high school and still have whatever part time jobs they had previously, or b) will be attending college next year and therefore can't be saddled into permanent full-time employment yet. So this:

Seriously? " Wall Street 24/7" is not a credible on line site. It's a cut and paste hack job. Jazuela is correct, there are many statistical errors in this "article". Regardless, we all know that the TV surrounding area was and still is a rural and somewhat poverty stricken area. Things are much better with TV than before because jobs have been created. Contractors last year had to hold a job fare because they could not hire enough construction workers to meet demand. This is all good stuff but if you are out to dine, don't stiff your wait staff if they've done their best. Leave a tip even if if you only get a glass of water. Be and stay nice, It'll brighten your outlook on life.

Kind of circular logic, actually.

When you increase your tips, you justify the worker's boss not giving them a raise. "See, you already make more than people working at that other place."

If you don't increase your tips, the employer justifies not giving employee more money because clearly the employee hasn't earned it - or they'd be making more tips.

In short, tips won't help in the long run unless you can guarantee that the employee will always make that higher percentage for every single customer, AND guarantee that they'll have enough customers paying that tip, to provide a net return they can live on, every month.

My daughter was a part-time waitress while in university, she shared her tips with everyone cook etc and the employer also asked for 10%. After that I took into account all the other people too. Anyone who gives personal service, movers etc gets tips.
