In spite of the facts, and like so many other things where facts show differently, a lot of people will still simply refuse to believe...that overall crime in America has went down in the last 25 years.
We may even hear from some of them...in this thread. Nuttin' but da facts ma'am. (stick'em up here) Quote:

Victims do not bother to report many crimes that they used to report years ago. The police don't care, don't show or if they do show up they blow it off. At least that is what I hear from many crime victims. Also in many jurisdictions a de facto catch and release program is in effect. Few criminals end up spending time in the slammer anymore. It is a mess as crime pays these days.

The same statement applies...to the entire 25 year period. Or did you think that people only started not reporting crimes...just since 1993? |

Nope. The Pew article you linked to explicitly - and solely - refers to the year 2018 in the #5 section. It says nothing about "the entire 25 year period" in that section about unreported crimes. I'm just referring to the text of the article you linked to. Now, could they have meant that unreported crimes are the norm, regardless of year? Sure. But that's not what was said there. The author used one year to show some stats. My point is that while any reduction in crime is a great thing, the fact (according to the article) that most crimes go unreported makes it problematic to ascertain exactly what's going on.

I knew it was safe here. We all WATCH out for each other. It is a very good place to live. We came here with morals and values. I love to live here.
You knew that. It's another beautiful day in The Villages. Good for US.
