Default Volunteer fire fighters?????

From the time I was 16 and for the next 30 or so years, I was involved in the volunteer fire service. (Weirton, West Virginia, Boardman, Ohio Vestal, New York Clive, Iowa, Olathe Kansas, Scotia, New York) I'm curious if other TOTV members or guests have put in time with the volunteers.

Hi, I have worked with Volunteer Ambulance, Fire Department, etc as a member of a Critical Incident Stress Team. These are the teams that went in after 911.

When there had been a horrific accident, a member of one of the companies badly injured or dies, if the members went to a scene that was very bad and left feeling that there was nothing more they could do but wished there were, etc.

That is my involvement with volunteer organizations. I am on three teams in our area, each providing the above service to different groups of people.

I admire the work that you do. I will check out to see if there is a local team near TV and see if I can join them. Maybe you would want to join me.

After retiring, I joined a Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in NJ. Spent 7 very rewarding years as a NJ Certified EMT before moving to TV. With chronic shortage of volunteers, most of our day time crews were retirees. There are some amazing folks who have served for 25-50 plus years. All without compensation. These are real heros IMHO.

Proud to say I am in my 43rd year of active service in a Long Island volunteer fire department. Currently working as public information officer for the department as well as holding the rank of ex-captain of an engine company, as well as the department's Fire Police Squad. Currently a member of FASNY (Firefighter's Association of the State of New York).

It is one of the things that I will miss when I finally become a Village Person.

Best wishes,

Newsman

Hi TV Man,

I'm the PIO in the Bellmore FD (www.bellmorefd.com), and senior correspondent for 1st Responder newspaper (www.1RBN.com). Started in 1964. Still going strong and having a ball, but now it's time to think about kicking back and relaxing. From what I hear, The Villages is the best place to do that.

Best wishes,

Newsman
