Water heater replacement
My gas hot water heater is approaching 15 yrs old. From what I research, their life is around 10 yrs.
Should I replace it now before something happens or wait until it fails? Thanks |

It is probably a good idea to replace it. I would also recommend that you install an expansion tank, which is a small tank that is installed above the water heater. It will prevent excessive water pressure in your house. Some plumbers will try to save money by not installing the expansion tank, especially if the old system does not currently have one.

I would say wait, as the saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it!
I did some preventive maintenance on my 14 year old water heater by flushing it and was unable to relight the pilot. My neighbor told me he had the same thing happen to him. I was able to get a $350 rebate check from Teco and used my Veterans 10% discount at Lowes for a new water heater and same day install. |
