You should not get excited about the number of new cases reported in one day. Shown is a graph for Sumter County. You will notice that there have been many one-day spikes since the pandemic started. What I suspect happens that some of the groups performing the tests forget to report their results on a daily basis and then report a large number a day or two later; this produces a false spike in the number of daily cases.
