But the general ambience of the Villages is very very attractive to younger folks, that's for sure. Our son was impressed with the cyclists and the dragon boat races, etc., the golf cart paths, etc. Lake Sumter Landing, etc.

However, people with children still have a social life, but often it revolves around the kids' activities, vacations at the children's age level whereby parents get all the double joy of reliving their own childhoods again.......and then it's us grandparents' turn to do the same thing..........

Also, once the little ones begin school, a lot revolves around school activities and extracurricular activities for kids..........

I agree Sr. Cit. My wife and I are DINKS. So leaving that type of family behind is not an issue.

I'm 50 and my wife is 54. we've been here for one year and we both love it. Sure there are some issues with living here, but I have yet to live anywhere where there were not some things that were not "perfect."

When we originally moved here we thought we were retired (we sold our business), but after a few months of living here my wife decided she missed being a nurse and she went back to work at the local hospital. I lasted almost a year and I decided that I missed teaching so I just recently took on teaching a few classes at the College of Central Florida.

We have friends here from their early 50s to their late 70s, we belong to several clubs, we work out at the gym regularly and love taking day trips to the surrounding areas. We feel we made the right decision for us.

Political correctness? Kindness? Some things are better left unsaid. Do you care that you have hurt the feelings of a lot of nice folks? Do you know that you too will join the ranks of the people you are talking about and someone could/will say that to you and even at THAT age, it will hurt your heart? Do you know that the mentality of people older than you probably is wisdom? Did you know that most people who live here are more interested in what is happening now in the world rather than if the music they hear is in the 70's and 80's? Did you have any idea when you moved to an over 55 community that most folks would be over 55? Some a little over 55 and some a lot over 55?

I am constantly surprised when I look around to see so many old people. Then I remember. My outsides look old too. It is my insides that are 16.

I will probably come back shortly and delete this, but I just had to say it.
Boy Howdy!

And...I may have hurt your feelings, and I am sorry if I did. None of us can HELP growing older. It just happened while we were doing more important things.

Just like you can't help being younger. It will correct itself eventually.

So well said, Gracie!
I would say it isn't your age that will make it hard for you to fit in, but more the fact that you have the question in the first place. If your perceived "young age" is that much of a concern, then it will matter to you.
It is like the song says "Come back when you grow up, girl!" But then that isn't a song from the 80's, either!

My wife and I are in your age group and I don't feel out of place at all. You can be as active as you want and on the whole I agree that you won't find a nicer group of people anywhere. My vote...come on down!

I agree with several other posters that you should rent in TV for a few months -- take a test drive so to speak. Maybe rent in a couple of different villages if that is possible for you to do. I am a couple of months shy of 52, but after visiting TV a few times now I would move to TV tomorrow if I didn't have to work for awhile :(
