Default Weather Radio Frequency?

I hope someone can help me. We had our weather radio set to Sumter County, and someone here said that we could take it to the fire station and have them set it for all 3 counties, so we did.

When the radio was set to only 1 county the radio would sound the alarm for about 10 seconds, and then the Weather Guy would automatically start talking to tell us what the alarm meant.

Now that we're set for 3 counties whenever the alarm sounds it just keeps going and going and going. We have to turn on the light and find our glasses and press the button to stop the alarm and hear weather guy talk to us. I would like to change it back to the old way, but I've lost the code. (I'm sure I put it in a safe place, probably with the weather radio instructions...) Do you know if there is any way to have the weather radio set for all 3 counties and have WeatherGuy automatically start talking?

Thanks for any help,
Judy

Default Weather Radio

1.Press Menu button to open up menu options
2.Press up arrow to scroll thru menu options until ALT.TYPE(Alert type) is displayed.
3.Press up arrow to scroll until you see"VOICE"
4.Press select to choose this option
5 .Press menu to exit programming mode.

Your unit will now sound the alert tone for 8 seconds and then go to voice message.

Default Weather radio

I purchased a weather radio several years ago after the tornado hit. I moved away, but when I came back I took my radio to Radio Shack and they took care of setting it up for the three counties. It has been working beautifully. I would recommend the radio from Radio Shack.

Default Weather Radio

I'm sure there are many fine units available, however the one that seems most popular is the Midland Model WR-100.These are readily available at Publix,CVS,Radio Shack ect usually around $29.95.

Default Weather Radio

Look for the selection button that gives you different county weather....Sumter County is located on number FIVE.

Bargee, Thanks so much! I used your instructions, and now I'm waiting for the next alert to discover if I did it correctly.
Thank you!

The firefighters are always delighted to reprogram your weather radio.

Thumbs up Great Info!

Thanks for all this great information, I will definitely put a weather radio on my shopping list so I can be prepared. Altho I have tried and tried I just cant seem to fit my car and golf cart in the garage together , but I better try harder after reading about these tornados!
I have visions of my car taking off high in the sky like Dorothy's farm house on the Wizard of Oz!!

Default Weather Alert Weekly Test

Be certain that your weather radio is set to receive the weekly test alert broadcast each Wednesday at about noon and 6 pm. It validates that your radio works and that it can receive weather alerts for the counties you have programmed.

Thanks for the info on weather radios. Wife was out at Wal-mart today and I had her pick up the Midland WR-100 recommended here.

I set it up but kept the setting for S.A.M.E codes to any vs. setting the 3 local counties mentioned here. Is that going to drive me crazy??? I can change it based upon the experiences of others here?

Right now the unit is silent and has no codes displayed. If I hit the weather button I get the weather broadcast as expected. I assume I have to wait for the Wed. test times to determine that the alerts are working? Any way to force that test?

Thanks again...

Be home tomorrow around noonish or around sixish, and you'll know if it works. The best part of having the weather radio is that you can go to sleep at night knowing that it will wake you if you need to take action. When I lived in Louisiana (before weather radios) I sat up all night watching TV, just in case I needed to grab the baby and hide out in the laundry room. This way is much better.
