Well here we go again - Gustav will soon be a tropical storm.

The current track which I see is very similar to Fay (I goofed by not following Fay longer) but I did mention rain - but not a Noah flood - sorry.)

Gustav could easily have a Fay track & while it is way early I see Fay ending up in Cuba again or even further east of Cuba which will not be good .

The WX systems over the SE US will deteriorate before Gustav arrives and I am trusting that a high will develop which kicks Gustav into the Gulf of Mexico.

Saturday will be the day when we'll have some really definitive news.

I support this alert as being 55% accurate.

Latest forecast calls for a move into the gulf as a Cat. 3. If that happens it should avoid FLA central. I like this site for tropical info:

Used to watch the Weather Channel a great deal in Palm Harbor in 2004 and through 2005 but lost interest since moving from Palm Harbor to TV.

Gustav has blossomed into a hurricane within 24 hrs - actuallly he is already beyond class 1 initial wind levels and is headed for class 2 with winds at 90 kts this AM. Entry level for class 1 is 74 kts.

A high pressure system over SE FL will initially keep Gustav on a westerly track which means it can swing into the Gulf or continue on toward Mexico.

The line of lows above FL are not yet linked, but I believe they will.

The jet stream 300mbs is tracking high on the US and may help to keep the lows from influencing Gustav meaning that this will mitgate Gustav from a Northerly turn - in which case it would track WNW.

PAY ATTENTION - Gustav is a significant cyclonic and I expect it to continue to strengthen.

As usual I encourage you to use all resources to stay abreast of conditions.

Remember the path has shifted slightly south and it does not look like there will be any terrain which would degrade Gustav, and the waters south of Cuba are warm which will help Gustav strengthen.

I rate this alert as 60% sccurate.

I don't believe it. We are finally coming down to TV, tomorrow, and Gustav is personally going to greet us!

Since I haven't had time to follow this storm, and storms meander all around the country, I find the weather forecasts not to accurate. If they are accurate, when will Gustav come to the Orlando and TV?

I have cancelled plans in the past because we were going to have an "event" that never came near us, this time I will follow through on our plans and attend a trade show in Orlando. At least I hope we go.

One of the first things we will do when we arrive in TV, will to prepare for Gustav just in case he does greet us. When we have potential snow storms here everyone seems to buy tp, guess will have to check our supply. LOL

Most important of all I found this site the best for accurate details of the weather. The weather stations seemed to show TV was either in the bright red area or bright yellow area.

I learned how Chel and everybody were all prepared for the event that became a non event. The weather stations did not report that. Nor did they report how Sam took a walk and saw all of Handie's blow ups blowing in the wind.

Then the last brain cell Im going on reminded me who Gustav was! Anyway , wanted to say I cant wait to see you & Sidney and have a very safe and uneventful trip to Paradise!

Dear Editor,

I am a nurse who has just completed volunteer working
approximately 120 hours as the clinic director in a Hurricane
Gustav evacuation shelter in Shreveport , Louisiana over the
last 7 days. I would love to see someone look at the evacuee
situation from a new perspective. Local and national news channels
have covered the evacuation and "horrible" conditions the evacuees
had to endure during Hurricane Gustav.

True - some things were not optimal for the evacuation
and the shelters need some modification. At any point, does anyone
address the responsibility (or irresponsibility) of the evacuees?

Does it seem wrong that one would remember their cell phone,
charger, cigarettes and lighter
but forget their child's insulin?
Is something amiss when an evacuee gets off the bus,
walks immediately to the medical area, and requests immediate
free refills on all medicines for which they cannot provide a
prescription or current bottle (most of which are narcotics)?

Isn't the system flawed when an evacuee says they cannot
afford a $3 copay for a refill that will be delivered to them in
the shelter yet they can take a city-provided bus to Wal-mart,
buy 5 bottles of Vodka, and return to consume them secretly
in the shelter?

Is it fair to stop performing luggage checks on incoming evacuees
so as not to delay the registration process but endanger the volunteer
staff and other persons with the very realistic truth of drugs, alcohol
and weapons being brought into the shelter?

Am I less than compassionate when it frustrates me to scrub emesis
from the floor near a nauseated child while his mother lies nearby,
watching me work 26 hours straight, not even raising her head from
the pillow to comfort her own son?
Why does it insense me to hear a man say "I ain't goin' home
'til I get my FEMA check" when I would love to just go home
and see my daughters who I have only seen 3 times this week?

Is the system flawed when the privately insured patient must find
a way to get to the pharmacy, fill his prescription and pay his copay
while the FEMA declaration allows the uninsured person to acquire
free medications under the disaster rules?
Does it seem odd that the nurse volunteering at the shelter
is paying for childcare while the evacuee sits on a cot during
the day as the shelter provides a "daycare"?

Have government entitlements created this mentality and am I
facilitating it with my work?
Will I be a bad person, merciless nurse or poor Christian if I hesitate
to work at the next shelter because I have worked for 7 days being
called every curse word imaginable, feeling threatened and fearing
for my personal safety in the shelter?
