Bump. Wow, for 5 days the new Wellness Center was the front page headline in the Daily Sun. Has anybody been there yet? How does it compare to the former Wellness Center?

i worked out at the new wellness center this morning. pretty, pleasant atmosphere. not crowded but it's the summer season so time will tell.

sadly no pool and no reduction in membership fees.

I assume that the Wellness Center is more expensive than the fitness centers that are in three of the Regional Recreation centers. Not having yet visited the Wellness Center, are there any advantages of it with a basic membership over the regional centers? I know that you can pay extra for personal trainers and massages, etc. but what about what you get for your basic membership fee versus what you get in a regional center?

i moved to tv just as ground was being broken for the wellness center and well before the creation of regional rec center fitness rooms . so it was the only "game" in town. and very welcomed.
with the loss of the wellness center's hot tub and indoor pool the advantages over the regional rec center fitness rooms has drastically decreased. but comparisons need to be made on individual equipment or class needs.

When I first moved to The Villages I joined the Fitness Center. For a single membership it was around $47 a month. Today I stopped by the new Wellness center and to my surprise the "Twilight Memberships" are very reasonable. One month for a single is $40 and for a couple it is $80. A three month membership is $90 for singles and $180 for couple. The only catch is for the Twilight costs you can only visit M-TH 4:30-8:00, F 3:00-6:00 and Sat /Sun 2:00-5:00. This is perfect for us since my husband and I are both busy in the mornings and afternoons. We need something to occupy us in the evenings. We are considering joining for at least 3 months. By a quick glance it appears the Wellness center has more equipment (quanity and type) than the Fitness centers.

Default Colony Cottage Fitness Center fees

I recently got the prices for membership at Colony Cottage. I also asked what an extra month would be just in case we wanted to increase membership by a little more.

The fees are at Colony Cottage Fitness Center for 3 mth. and 6 mth are, 3 mth single is $127.50, couple is $214.00, 6 mth. single is $225.00, couple is $440.01. The cost for additional month is $47.50 for single and $92.00 for a couple.

So for 3 months the difference is only $34.00 and the advantage for us is that we can go whenever we want - we usually like to go early in the mornings so that we have the rest of the day for golf etc. so we will probably stay with Colony.

Default How much "say" do residents have?

Lots of News features on the Wellness Center these days. I said it at the beginning that moving to the present ridiculous location wasn't a good idea, as have other residents. The problems of parking, having to deal with stairs & (crowded) elevators, etc. is not friendly to the older population. I wonder what they're charging for membership these days? Don't get me wrong. One of the features that sealed my fate when we moved here is the Wellness Center, an ideal facility when it was at the former location. The staff, I am sure, are just as well-qualified & pleasant as always, but to cavalierly move, leaving the therapeutic swimming pool behind seems a stupid & selfish act on the part of the developer. Look at the picture on the front page of today's Daily Sun. Everybody is jammed into that room, on those machines.

Default Other Gyms?

Has anyone looked into the other gyms close by like the one on 466A.?..( Can't recall the name) Just wondering because I have been very disappointed with the quality of the gyms there in TV..What a shame b/c they promote the healthy living etc, but no decent weight rooms. The one at Colony ( and the other rec ctrs) are so small and always crowded.. I keep thinking what a great idea it would be to open a larger gym there with better equipment and more space but was accessible by golf cart. That is the big thing is to make it cart accessible...It is great to be active and do the outdoor things etc, but it is very important to do weight bearing excercises as you get older. It promotes bone growth and helps with overall fitness...

The one on 466A is for personal training only. Anytime fitness on 441 which is above the hospital toward Weirsdale is an awesome gym. They are the fastest growing fitness franchise in the US... 24 hr access, good rates, great footprint.... Lots of hammer strength equip.

I think the Colony Rec prices are outrageous considering the small amount of equipment offered with no classes offered. Up North my gym is at least 5 times as large and has clases all day and night including "spin" at no additional cost..Also Zumba etc. I pay $125 for 3 months. open from 4am to 11 pm and I have alot of equipment and it is top of the line.
Dont know that I will do when I am in TV full time.....
