Default west nile virus

Does any one know about a villagers death caused by West Nile virus after being bitten at the Fenney area a couple weeks ago.
I am hoping this is a bad rumor.

Maybe the County Health Dept. knows? Sounds like the spreading of a rumor to me?

There is no Fenny ...... Did you mean Fenney or maybe the fanny area?

I did call Sumter County Health and all they would say there is an investigation open in regards to this matter.
They did say to use normal protection.

Guess it is not a rumor.

I received an email about this death five weeks after a group my neighbor is in that went golfing in Fenney, then had a hot dog lunch around a fire pit there. The group was driven out by mosquitoes. This was in November. A member of the group became ill, went through several diagnoses and ended us at Shands, where West Nile was diagnosed. He died a week ago. The neighbor (former college professor, very reliable, ethical man) sent this around to our neighborhood social group and suggested to share the email so people would beware and wear insect repellent in the newer areas of TV. I started to put it on TOTV but decided not to because of fear of being shot as the messenger.

But I believe it is true. My neighbor is in the golf group, called Gourmet Picklers.

My fanny was bit last night, but I did not report it to the Health Department.

If this is true, why hasn't the health department put some kind of warning?

According to articles on the web, West Nile is almost never a fatal disease.

If you do some checking, you will find warnings have been sounded as early as August last year from different sources and October 1, 2018 the “-news” indicated Sumter County officials were warning residents about rising West Nile problems.

I would think that a death attributed to West Nile by competent authority would be widely reported in local news venues. Has anyone seen a local news report by a legit news source. Understand the person who was recently reported as a casualty was elderly and suffering from a number of other issues .
