I think that all of us should have a letter writing or phone call campaign, from all the clubs that we belong to, to stop this madness.
This is a town, but also a community that we are already paying for all the amenities. Why are we paying on top of our amenity fees just to have the privilege of sitting in our own town square!

Just spoke to my connection inside The Villages. The Entertainment Dept. got a ton of flack today over this from residents. All the space was gone by 9 AM. I also heard that if you don't rent space you can't save a chair. You must occupy your chair. Also you may NOT bring in ANY FOOD OR BEVERAGES of any kind if you don't rent a spot. You will NOT be able to buy the champagne packages offered to space renters either. You MUST stand in line at the bar huts to get a drink all night including bottled water.

So sounds like those FREE chairs are not so good of an option after all.

This is not a town. The squares are private property, owned by the developer. Your ammenities only go to the recreation part of your lifestyle not to entertainment or restaurants and shops.

I would like to ask my question again (see second post), where are the NYE new rules posted, other than anything official all we have at this point is a lot of different opinions. I for one prefer facts.

You know two? ;D
Today's Sun page 4D.
Edict by Barbara herself.
Spin something like "at the request of our residents" (not actual quote - since that page is now at the bottom of my bird cage).

I really do love living here, but when I have to deal with the politics, it makes me crazy. Can you imagine all the "seats" at the town squares being sold out by 9:00am?
I usually don't even wake up until then. I'm RETIRED for goodness sakes!
When the realtors sell the houses here, they should really let prospective owners know that the entertainment in the town square is by the goodness of the developers heart only, and it can be taken away at any time. That's what all of this says to me.

Oh, I love it here too. But you're catching on, Sharon.

Sorry if I mis-led you. The seats are free to use if you stay in them. Tables and chairs require a fee of $30-$60 (for residents). If you don't rent a space (and it's too late now), you can't bring any food or beverage to the square.

If they make a lot of money doing this, then might the "no food or beverage" rule be enforced every night? Who knows?
