The other day I was on the way to Brownwood at 23 mph when a cart came up behind me......they came along side to pass but then had to slam on the brakes as someone was coming for a head on......after that they cut out again and passed me.
10 seconds later we we stopped at the stop sign outside the fire station. You would think it was kids but it looked like an older woman with husband. Guess they were in a rush :ohdear: |
It isn’t much cost to turn the speed up. You can get them to go 27-28 mph by installing high speed gear and adjusting the governor. If you want more them put larger diameter tires on it and it’ll likely get to 29-30 mph the tires and wheels are more expensive than the first two modifications so that’s why I suggest those first.
My friend installed a snowmobile engine in his and it’ll go 39 MPH. Quote:

I drive on the cart paths the same as I do on the roadways which is fast. I drive as fast as I can without putting others at risk and I'm almost never going anywhere that requires me to be in a hurry, I just like speed. I won't make a determination on what's fast enough for others. I am always baffled why people feel it's necessary to be the speed police and make a decision on what's a safe speed for others and never pull to the side when they see you behind them on both roads and cart paths knowing you want to pass them and that is just straight up rude. They need to stop being the speed conductor that is pulling the train and politely pull to the side. When I see a faster cart coming up behind me I put on my directional, slow down and pull off to the side. Being thoughtful of others is often followed up with courtesy wave/thanks by the passer. I also don't tailgate slower carts as that will just make them go slower like on the roads. Like I said, I'm really not in a hurry.
Snowbird rant: Unless born in Florida, every one of you were a snowbird at some point even if it was a small vacation in January in the past. How was your behavior during your trip? If you are a genuinely respectful person you were the same when visited us. I've lived in Fort Lauderdale for almost 40 years and most of us loved the snowbirds! The only negative was they didn't know their way around on the roads and restaurants/events were more crowded. Just have to be a little more patient on the roads and leave a bit early. What did I love about snowbirds? 99% were genuinely good and happy people that were in vacation mode with larger amounts of disposable income then our locals and they weren't afraid of spending it in our community which helped most businesses and venues? Just remember, an AH is an AH regardless of FT or PT. We are FT and new to TV (with manners) and absolutely love it here as the majority of folks are downright nice. |

As to what is constitutes "rude". Maybe expecting that others alter their safe driving practices to indulge your need for speed might be considered rude. As to your "snowbird rant", most of what you say has been tossed around for years, but glad you were able to get it off your chest. Not everyone was a snowbird. Some came during spring or summer and bought. Some came from warmer climates. Second time poster, you had a lot to say. In time you will learn that sometimes we are serious and just as often comments are tongue in cheek. Welcome to TOTV. |

I never said that being late for a tee time is a life emergency but it is inconsiderate to those that you are playing with and others that may have taken that spot. Ot has also been pointed out that not everyone drives their cart at 20mph and some carts are not capable of going 20mph. Is there any reason that I shouldn't safely pass someone who is going slower than I? Even if they are going 20mph and my cart is capable of faster speeds, a driver trying to prevent me from passing is creating more danger than one that simply slows down and allows me to go. The state of Florida recognized this a few years ago when they passed the left hand lane law for automobiles. A person driving above the speed limit in the left hand lane is less likely to cause an accident than a person changing lanes to pass a slower vehicle int he left hand lane. Why anyone cares if another vehicle, whether it be a car, golf cart wants to pass them is beyond me. If someone wants to drive faster than you, let them pass. If they're breaking the law, it's none of your business. |

On the cart paths, you expect those who travel the legal speed limit to pull off onto the grass area? I will not do that. Sorry. I also will not slow down for someone who is passing unless it looks as though the passer will not clear my cart when getting back onto the path in front of me. Have fun speeding but be safe about it....please. |
