We keep it on 78 but we measured it and it’s more like 76.
Been in Florida 26 years so now I get cold :(

1. The thermostat measures the temperature wherever the thermostat is located. Ours is in the hallway. The room on the other side of that wall is always colder than the rest of the house. The living room seems to always be the warmest, except if I've been doing a lot of work in the kitchen. The difference can be up to 5 degrees. So if we set it to 76, it -could- get as cool as 71 in my office. I hate that, but there's really no way to balance the air flow in this house any better without ripping the roof off and building an entire new duct system. We don't have an attic, so the ducts are directly between the roof and the ceiling of the house.

2. We try to keep it at 78-80 in the summer during the day, and 76 at night. In the winter, it's usually set to 68 at night and 70-72 during the day.

It is my considered opinion, being married as long as I have to a woman who judges how she feels inside by what she thinks the weather is like outside, that women are NOT reliable judges of temperature. She once told me that it is possible to be too hot and too cold at the same time!

Absolutely, and I agree with her. That is why when I feel hot, down goes the thermostat and on go the fans, and when I feel cold vice versa. Fortunately the rooms are not the same temperature. The Western exposure studio is much warmer usually than the bedroom closest to the HVAC so when hubby wasn’t comfortable he just moved to where he was or I did.

In the north many people kept their furnace fans running 24/7 to even out the temp in all parts of the home. In Flordia, that is not a good practice as it brings unwanted humidity into the house because nearly all HVAC units are in the garage and outside air is infiltrated into the unit...thus moving outside humidity inside.

I just closed on new home last week in TV. While it is still empty till this week, I'm monitoring temp and humidity. I was surprised that humidity was over 60% at 78 degrees. I got it to 58% by holding temp at 76. I'm anxious to see what happens after my furniture is here what effect it has.
If I am making a recommendation it is this, don't just monitor temperature, humidity is extremely important. Some studies say under 60% others say 50%. If you don't monitor humidity, then you may open your home up to potentially getting mold. Nobody wants that.
Reason for this post is to just educate people that temperature isn't the only thing to monitor in your home. This is especially important to seasonal residents.

73°, 24/7. My most recent electric bill, for the month ending August 10, was $122. That’s the highest this year. But it’s not bad.

It is amazing how the human body can adjust. I thought it was amusing after first arriving in the Middle East. In their winter the locals wore raincoats to break the wind and huddled around fires if the temperature went below 70 degrees. After being there for a few years I was wearing a jacket if below 70.
