We noticed these plants especially the larger closest to the house. What are they? I think we were on Buena Vista near Sable Chase. ???????????? Similar to hostas only the one near the house is a GIANT. Click on picture for a closer look.

It is called a "Century Plant" which is it's common name. It's formal name is "Agave" and it is a succulent plant that has large fleshy leaves with sharp points. The plant is called a century plant because of the long time the plant takes to flower but the plant only flowers one time and then dies. The flower stalk will shoot up in a matter of days to a height of 25 feet. I have three of them in my landscape. I did have a chance to see one of these plants in the Village of Alahambra that grew the flower and then died. Nature is amazing!

Well I'll be. Wonder why the man upstairs or the local horticulturist designed such a specie. Kinda like salmon. Flower once then die.
We have found with ours that they will grow baby agaves so we do have to pull those out of the ground in order to keep the main plant looking nice and neat.
