If I had a friend on her knees vomiting, I would be frantic.
I wouldn't be thinking clearly, and I would definitely be in need of help.

OP, you did the right thing. Thanks for being a Good Samaritan. We never know when we might need help and I agree most Villagers are kind and considerate people.

In my opinion, when someone is hurt or sick and you have to hold up traffic or block traffic for a minute or so to help its the right thing to do. How insensitive of this other person to be annoyed. To bad for her. There seems to be more people,than I'd like to see with the "it's all about me " attitude. My friend and I were coming back from golf today and stopped at a red light. We didn't even have time to look both ways and for my friend to get her foot on the gas when a car was beeping its horn behind us. We figured maybe we had a problem with our golf clubs and she was trying to warn us? Nope....apparently we didn't step on the gas quick enough. Then we approached a gate and her card wouldn't work so she had to get out of the car to get the card to work. We had to chuckle......karma!! We ended up getting ahead of her through the gate. I'm sure it ticked her off!

Karma--that's a good thing to remember. It always makes me feel better when someone's been a jerk. Karma will get them!

People who are in such a hurry that they can't wait a bit while someone is attempting to render aid to a person should think what would they like to happen to them if they were the sick/injured party.

That's what I like about The Villages and the people. There are 99.9% people who live here that really, really care. "We are Family"

It is against the law to block the roadway. Remember the nice lady that stopped on the road to let a duck and ducklings cross the road. A motorcycle couple ran into the back of the stopped vehicle and they both died. Explain to their family what a nice thing the good lady did in that event. There are laws for a reason. Stop making excuses for law breakers.

Whoa. Considering the circumstances described in the OP, this is harsh!

One of the laws is thou shalt keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Also, that was a highway she stopped on, and she stopped in the passing lane. For ducks. This situation is quite different... Someone pulling over not in the passing lane and not on a highway to help a human in trouble.

The OP's wife pulled over as far as she could, and followed her instincts to offer help.

I happened to be traveling North on Canal St (in the opposite direction) yesterday and observed the woman in distress along the other side of the road. Saw the golf cart with husband and the other golf cart pulled alongside offering assistance. I also saw the car sitting there impatiently, not going around the folks rendering aid and thought that's dumb...just go around. It was a very low speed area, just a little inside the gate at Stillwater/Canal. It was not a dangerous situation for the car.



Thank you to the OP for stopping to offer help for all the possible reasons folks have offered here. To the impatient driver and others who hold an absolute view of law enforcement, common sense and decency prevailed in this instance.... helping a fellow human in need trumps a minute of inconvenience.

They needed to keep their vehicle under control !! If someone is stopped in front of them and you hit them, it's their fault ! They weren't blocking the roadway. There are 2 lanes. I definitely would have stopped and let ducks cross. I certainly would not have run them over.

Let us also remember that there are many retired Nurses and other medical personell here who are required to stop and render aid until the EMT people come. When seeing a person in distress, they must stop.

And the other case was the fault of the motorcycles not keeping a safe following distance. In a rearend collision the person striking the other vehicle in the rear is always guilty by law.

Retired nurses and medical personnel are REQUIRED to stop and render aid? I have never heard of that before. Is that a state law in Florida?
