I can’t stay above 5th floor of a hotel, or drive over a bridge, rock climb, roller coasters, or anything to do with heights. Flying is something I can do, and traveled extensively for work, but I never look out the window, and don’t feel comfortable until plane has reached altitude.

Too bad. That seems QUITE difficult to deal with!

There is nothing "natural" about our current inflation, nor was it "designed" (the actual opposite of "natural") to stop anything...

I am scared to death of heights after four near death events. I can’t go higher than three steps on a step ladder much less change the bulbs in our ceiling fan above the bed.

........But, anyway, the tub has a chlorine-like anti-bacterial solution in it. And some really GREAT conversations happen in the tub. And some REALLY boring ones also.

I really didn’t want to say this straight out in my initial post but many of the people in the hot tub were counting the time soaking as a bath.

The hot tub removes dead skin and other chromosomes that I don’t want to share with anyone. The volume of people in that tub was big. Not for me or many who owned a hot tub at their home Gross!!!!

Omg! Yes! Why did they ever invent those huge swing in the air exit ramps off highways?? Reminds me off a terrifying amusement ride. High bridges send me quivering. I had to stop a bus going up a mountain so I could get off. Those kind of details are often left out of excursion details. I could go on about other horrors I have gotten into related to this issue, but I won't bore you any further.

lindaelane 03-20-2023 08:54 AM

phobia

Solitary confinement - that is, being confined in a room with no one there and nothing to do. I don't mind being alone if I have internet, books, walks, etc.

A nursing home can sometimes be close to the same thing as solitary confinement, so that is a big fear.

Nucky, I completely understand. But I certainly would not categorize it as a phobia. It just makes good sense to me.

I don’t know how it was in other places in the country, but in my part of the Midwest, it seems like some of us boomers (and beyond) went through a stage in the 90s, and the early 00s, when if we were building houses or remodeling bathrooms, we thought we had to have a Jacuzzi bathtub…..

I was among ‘em. (sigh) But, at least, we had sense enough to put in a big water heater.

Later sold the house with the giant Jacuzzi in the bathroom, bought another house from some boomer who had been like-minded back in our salad days of those damned jets……

BUT THEN, I perused plumbing websites until I found that same size, same shape, exact same tub — but without somebody else’s jets — that had been there for 20 years……

Had the old tub very carefully gouged from the nice, neutral tile that surrounded it (a Sawzall is your friend) — and new jetless version was plumbed in.

AND when we sold that house, that “soaking” tub was definitely a feature.

So, Nucky, not only do I get what you are saying, but I have played out the same aversion to jetted tubs of any kind. But please, please, promise me that you will not get so grossed out thinking about that hot tub on the historic side that you will go and take a Sawzall to it.

Persnickety, but not phobic, Boomer

Probably too late to sell now. Just hold tight until it is over. Don't panic and sell in the middle of a recession.

That is unique. I used to have to run up bleachers as part of a college sport. That sort of tests your balance.

I have been hit by lightning - twice. Caught in a rope underwater at 30 ft. And ended up upside down on a moving motorcycle to avoid a direct hit by a car. ......And I would be glad to do those same activities again, no problem.

One could say the same that when they enter any room that has or had people in it that now they are breathing in particles from other people. So, I would have no problem with a group hot tub. A naked tub with ALL pretty people would be nice also!
