Retired Guy, I generally have great respect for your posts and you have helped me several times, but what happened to your math in this instance? Where did you get $176.54 from JoMars post. The lobsters were much less expensive than that. Maybe check again.:)

I rechecked my math, and it is correct. $176.54 for 2 pounds of lobster meat. That is not for live lobster, but for lobster meat, which is the way I would order it.

Greetings,
We purchase Live Maine Lobsters from the Costco website. The last I looked, Costco offers six 1.25 Lobsters overnight shipping included for about $150.00.

There are several fish markets outside of the bubble in Leesburg one more instance of The villages not being the best place to buy something. You can always ask Publix what their prices as a special order fish all the time.

In the late 1980s I used to take my kids to Bar Harbor, and we paid $5/lb at the wharf then. And it was a bargain.

Yes, this time of year fresh lobster is less expensive. I bought it at market basket for 5.99 a pound and they would steam it for you. In MA.

Hard shell or soft shell? Soft shell more water than meat but sweeter. Hard shell winter lobster under 2lbs best for us. IMHO not worth it in any case.

Maybe the lobsters are using the liquid oxygen …..

Lobster and fresh seafood buffet

If you like all seafood.......Go To Boston Lobster Feast in either Orlando or Kissimmee. By the way, it's owned by Bar Harbor Seafood. In case you've never seen their trucks on the roads. They are one of the major suppliers to restaurants throughout Florida. If you go on their website Bostonlobsterfeast.com and sign up for their emails....you will received a monthly coupon for $5 per up to 6 persons at your table.....and more for your birthday.
Oh......you can eat 20 lobsters at the buffet if you want to....along with raw oysters, clams, mussels, shrimp at least 5 different ways, clam chowder, lobster bisque and more. If you like seafood....you won't go away hungry.

Hell, McDonalds used to sell lobster around Boston. I don't know if they are doing it at this time but they served lobster salad on a hot dog roll (very much New England style) for $8.99 the last time I had it. There was always a large claw piece on top for effect.

Also I believe Winn Dixie in Sumter Landing has a live lobster tank.

Publix Southern Trace has a tank in their seafood area with live lobsters in multiple sizes. They will steam for you if desired.

Been wondering......Maine lobsters have huge claws, as anybody knows. Most lobster you buy down here in Florida have NO claws, just long antennae. So, at what point in between does it change? Had both, and tail is good, but you get short changed with southern lobster.

leopfeiffer 08-22-2021 08:19 AM

been wondering.....as we all know, Maine lobster have large claws, as any lobster from cold water areas have. When you buy lobster from the southern tier, as in Florida, all you get are two long antennae, no claws. At what point does that change??

Lobster

Publix at Southern Trace has live lobsters. When I was in Foxboro, Massachusetts 2years ago I was paying $4.99 lb for live lobsters at Stop and shop, they also steamed them, I was eating 3 at a time until I actually got sick of them, wish I had them now. I usually buy 2 to 3 pounders at Publix, I call so they can order them, they will steam them too, they are pricey, but you have to treat yourself once in a while.
