Home Depot is fair and excellent installers. Maytag washers and dryers are made in Newton,Iowa.

HJBeck 12-19-2022 08:16 AM

Consumer Reports LG products as having the highest ratings. Samsung did not do well. Home Depot or Lowes have descent selection and deliver.

GpaVader 12-19-2022 08:23 AM

FWIW... When we bought our home last year, of course it didn't come with the washer and dryer. We wanted a gas dryer so our choices were limited. I shopped around at the damaged Applicance store, sorry forgot their name, but no gas there. We'd bought at one in MN and had great luck and server from them. We then did the Lowes, Home Depot and Best Buy route. We ended up at Lowes based on price and availability. We bought Maytag front load washer and a gas dryer. Both showed up on the day the were scheduled without any issues.
We recently bought an extra refrigerator from Best Buy, again after shopping around at Lowes and Home Depot. They had what we wanted at a good price. We took deliver as scheduled but when it arrived the door swing was the wrong way. We asked them to change it as I've done this many times in the past, and they refused because it wasn't on the work order. Called Best Buy and they would not talk to me until a week later they called back. Then told me I had to pay $50 to get the door changed and I've have to come into the store to pay for it. I've shopped Best Buy for well over 30 years, before it was Best Buy.... I've bought many appliances and I have never been treated or talked to this way before. Not sure I'll be giving them any more of my business.

Just my 2 cents worth....

pvetrano1 12-19-2022 08:28 AM

Best Buy

retiredguy123 12-19-2022 08:46 AM

When I bought my house 6 years ago, I bought the cheapest washer and dryer that Lowes sold for about $650. They are called Hotpoint. They still wash and dry my clothes today. I can't imagine why I would need to buy anything more fancy, or read Consumer Reports.

go to appliance direct in Leesburg, or SouthEast Steel in Orlando

Thanks guys,

Purchased from Lowes with a veteran's discount got great price and quick delivery.

Most of the responses in this thread involve Big Box store brands, which are NOT made like machines used to be made.
Do your homework. Ask a repair person their opinion. Most will say the only really well made machine that actually uses enough water and really cleans clothes is a Speed Queen. They are more expensive, have a 7 year warranty(what does that tell you) but really clean your clothes.

Hi - I went with Samsung, as it was on a Black Friday special - paid cash.

Michael 61 12-19-2022 09:29 AM

And I know the horror stories about Samsung - but talked to others who have had no problems - I guess I’ll just keep my fingers crossed!

jaclou 12-19-2022 09:35 AM

Remember front loaders are deeper than top loaders so depending on your situation if you’re putting them into a closet, the front loaders might not work

I just bought a new gas dryer from Costco. It was on sale whirlpool 400 bucks great deal but I did the install it myself.

Sonny's Discount Appliances in Altamonte Springs gave me the best discount and price for buying eight appliances. GE profile for kitchen and LG for laundry. My GE fridge had trouble, and the Friday GE stood me up for the second time for service I called Andrew from Sonny's and on Monday he delivered me a brand new replacement refrigerator. Family run business.
Shop Kitchen & Home Appliances

Janicepyatt 12-19-2022 09:51 AM

I agree with poster about Samsung...horrible.

Not sure where Speed Queen's are sold near here but they are made for laundry mats and are heavy duty. Not a lot of extras but their warranty is best around. Had Samsung, neither Washer or dryer lasted 5 years. Have SQ now and will never have another brand! Made in Wisconsin I believe.

We went to Desantis Appliance in Wildwood to purchase Speed Queen because they are completely made in the US. They do lack bells and whistles but have been very durable and reliable machines. They are the same machines as the ones in commercial laundromats just without the coin slot.

Best Buy was a disaster for my friend. 4 trips for wrong and damaged appliance and bad installation.

Speed Queen made in USA. Setzer's in Ocala only seller in the area when I moved here in 2013. Check SQ website to see if any others now carry SQ. Not inexpensive, but worth the money.

Michael G. 12-19-2022 12:24 PM

Went to Appliances Direct for a refrigerator a bottom freezer with a single door, (no French doors).

Appliances Direct said, "they don't make bottom freezers with single doors."

Went to Home Depot, they had 4 models on the floor with single doors and bottom freezer, just want we wanted.

Bottom line: Just watch the BS from sales running down the side of their mouth at Appliance Direct.

maistocars 12-19-2022 03:22 PM

Lowes if Costco doesn't have them on sale or the one you want.

waterflower 12-19-2022 03:23 PM

Do not buy any appliance from lowes or home depot.. Speed Kinf--one and done-quality

rustyp 12-19-2022 04:57 PM

Bottom line is appliances are not of the quality of old. Whirlpool owns the majority of US manufactured appliances like Amana, Maytag, Admiral, etc. Life expectancy 10 - 12 years with service calls every 3 years on good brands. Run as fast as you can away from Samsung. Speed Queen is the best by far but the cost will be 2x-3x. If Speed Queen cost is not 2x - 3x it is probably not their commercial grade models.

Djean1981 12-19-2022 05:17 PM

We went to home depot and purchased a stacked model which saves space.

Stay away from them!!! Very poor customer service and I am still waiting for a partial refund they promised in February.

Michael 61 12-19-2022 07:14 PM

This thread has been very helpful to me - I have a washer /dryer being delivered and installed next month from Best Buy - purchased a Samsung, but after doing more research and seeing the comments, I am cancelling the Samsung and going with another brand - still had time to swap out - thank you TOTV posters for the warnings against Samsung.

Wow. I just checked the price for a Speed Queen washer/dryer combination. They are on sale for $2,628. They look just like my $650 Hotpoint pair from Lowes that are still working after 6 years. I can afford to buy 3 more sets of Hotpoints and still be money ahead. No wonder "Made in America" is not working.

It’s doubtful your Hotpoints will still be $650 and my Speed Queen will still be working.

Best Buy. Good delivery and hook up. LG appliances both here and up north have been great. Best Buy's Total Tech covers all your items

Remember you chose to trade reliability and actual ability to clean when you buy your 3rd Hotpoint.

Best Buy

I buy at Best Buy, I have my computers and appliences from them. I have the tech. program and they take care of everything. I bought tv's from them for holiday sales and they were all delivered, hung and installed and It didn't cost anything extra. Also computer problems and deliveries free.

Thanks guys,

We just bought the Maytag brand at Costco for 999.99. And it's a gas dryer.

You're correct. It's going to cost me almost twice as much to replace the Hotpoints. I hope they last another 6 years.

Their website doesn't show the sale of appliances, only repair?

It’s not a big part of their business. They started out only selling to laundromats but then people started asking for them so they decided to stock a few. It’s the only brand they carry and only as a convenience. I found them by looking on the Speed Queen website for local dealers.

ABT.com is the Way to Go

We have purchased appliances online from ABT.com. Their prices were great and the shipping was fast and free. As I recall, they didn’t charge sales tax either as they are based in Illinois. You may also contact them directly via phone, if you prefer. 847-954-4140

P. S. They have more products than appliances!

SusanStCatherine 12-20-2022 10:48 AM

If you are getting gas dryer, check with your utility company for hookup - it was reasonable like $35. In our area Lowe's was incorrectly installing gas dryers and the gas company was out turning off people's gas.
