By the look of the posts water quality must vary wildly across The Villages. Our water is crystal clear and has no off-taste or odors. There is never any staining or calcium build-up where water is used. Before investing in a filtration system that will require ongoing maintenance and cost I would request a water quality report from your provider and do your own “sniff” test. Unless of course you have money to burn on redundant systems and want to keep up with the Jones’.

Pegasus Water

I called them all (locally) and we settled on Pegasus. We drink this unhealthy and horrible water right out of the tap now! (Not to mention washing clothing and taking baths) I recommend them 110% and worth spending a little more money. Good luck with your search and Happy New Year

There is no shortage of confusion and misinformation. Like any other product few people will say I fell for a sales presentation and it was a mistake.
We have hard water. The reason is our source. Our soils are loaded with limestone.
There is a difference between a water filter and a water softener.
Hard water makes laundry detergents work not as well. Simple solution is to add Borax with your wash. For all cooking and drinking we used the filtered water from the refrigerator. They need to be regularly replaced. Caution, there are like too many other things Chinese knock offs. It is hard to tell the difference. I read somewhere you can tell by weighing them.
For snow birds. Bacteria does grow in the stagnant water in any water filter. I would change them when you arrive.
Water is actually an important health issue. Read, beware of the motive of the person the company giving you the information. Perhaps, for many, including me, it is this is what I decided-right or wrong?????????

We seem to agree. Personal experience. I used to do presentations involving water and chemistry. I resorted to bringing my own water. Pre 9/11. Imagine today traveling on a plane with 20-30 gallons of water.

To the subject the water to your home depends on many things the quality of the water supplied as well as where your home is on the supply line.

More old history. As a summer job around High School I worked in a machine shop.
One of the products I worked on was making faucets out of monel an expensive hard on tools stainless steel. They were used down south. Besides the cost, our plumbing is all plastic. Our water will quickly destroy brass or copper. No I am not. was not, a machinist a slightly more than minimum wage machine watcher

I agree with this. Always feel slimy after showering with a water softener system. We just went with the filter and it is fine so far.

True, Nova will change the filters for $125 or sell them for $80 if you want to do them yourself. The $600 upfront was the cheapest we could find and the best $600 we ever spent.

I have a Nova but haven’t noticed any difference at all with my water

Unfortunately, I've heard that before about the Nova system.

Not everyone has the same taste as they did years ago, but we always hear and you can read here and elsewhere there is BIG difference in taste,

More importantly is the contaminants, sediment and pollutants removed

Have you been tested for Covid? I understand you can lose your taste and smell senses. :D Just kidding but as I said in an earlier post the difference was DRAMATIC here both in taste and smell. There has to be something in that brown crud that was removed with our filters. As others have said, it depends on what area you live in. The used filter on the right in the photo was the first in line of the 3 in the Nova system.

I recently installed the Nova Whole House Water Filtration System. The company did an excellent installation. Prompt and reasonably priced at $599.00 installed.

2019 Water Quality Report - Mmmmm...Tasty.

172 mg/L is not bad...Excellent for Florida.

Since this thread is along the lines of water filtration.....I inherited a Villages house that has a water softener system. Unfortunately, no paperwork is available to learn how it works, but I do know the salt has to be refilled when the container gets to a certain level. Water is soft inside house and I understand how some folks might not like the slimy feeling after a shower. But even after ~17 years, the faucets all look brand new! Can anyone recommend a company to come out and evaluate it? To be honest, I'm not even sure what brand it is! But it works!!

IMHO, our GE fridge filter gives us the best tasting drinking water, right along with the great taste of Fiji bottled water. Most other bottled water, to me, has an awful taste. I would recommend some sort of gizmo to remove the calcium our hard water has. A scale blaster looks like it would work to keep the pipes free of scale build up. I really have to look into this.

Does anyone have one of these scale blasters installed in their home? If so, how is it working for you?

Amazon.com

This is the system I have had installed for 2 years now. I did my research, and the filters in this system filter to lower microns than the Nova system. I installed myself in about 4 hours with a bypass.

I find the water in our area to be pretty good, but with the whole house filter, the water is excellent for drinking - better than many of the bottled waters I have tried. I am a home brewer, so a good water supply is crucial for good beer!

I added an electronic water conditioner as well (the Scale Blaster). It doesn't remove calcium, but makes the calcium clump up into larger particles. You don't notice the particles in the water, but it doesn't stick to the fixtures like it used to! Calcium is not bad for you - it just tends to leave tough to clean stains on all your fixtures.
