Default Why does the villages need Wildwood?

The new sections are annexed in to Wildwood. Why? I see no value they provide for a fat tax.

Let see. Water and police are the first two things that come to mind.

My guess is that Wildwood got permission to annex those worthless properties years ago, probably so they could tax outsiders who want to build on that land. Now Wildwood is reaping the benefit of their decision.

But wait, the unincorporated sections of The Villages in Sumter County get those services form the county without having to pay Wildwood taxes. So what are you paying twice for now?

Technically, if some of the usual county services are provided by Wildwood, the residents should pay less county taxes.

You are paying to use the land that 'belongs' to Wildwood.

Wildwood rubber stamps...ea$y... With all that money coming in, you see NOTHING back from the government. Kinda makes you wonder where that money is going.

Anyone want to run for office?

City Commission | Wildwood Florida

The form of government of the City of Wildwood is known as "the Commission-Manager plan." The City Commission makes up the governing body with powers to pass ordinances; adopt resolutions; appoint a chief administrative officer to be known as the City Manager, boards, and commissions by resolution; and exercise all other powers provided for by the City Charter and federal, state, and local law.

The City Commission consists of a Mayor-Commissioner and four Commissioners, whose terms of office shall be for four years; all of whom are elected at large and qualified as prescribed in the City Charter. Their terms of office begin on the second Monday in January following their election.

The City Commission conducts its meetings in accordance with Roberts Rules of Order except as may be amended from time to time by resolution or ordinance.

If you wonder where the tax money you pay to Wildwood is being used, just keep your eyes open. In the Daily Sun, we often see articles about Wildwood and the plans they have for the future.

When The Villages started building south of 466, one of the benefits the developers showed to be approved was that the land was or would be part of Wildwood and Wildwood would benefit from the taxes it could collect. If you remember back then, Wildwood was a very poor community with closed and boarded up stores along 301 and elsewhere. The Villages knew that they had to improve the conditions there so people would not feel threatened going to Brownwood and/or buying south of 466. Wildwood had a very bad reputation for crime back then as well. So, essentially the developer determined that the people building in that area needed to subsidize Wildwood so that it would become a nicer gateway into The Villages.

Richmond water and trash Not provided by Wildwood. We have a county sheriff. See zero benefits for taxes paid. Wildwood wasting money on it’s sad downtown and chasing criminals. It will never be great

Or if they overburdened the county everyone would be paying higher county taxes.

It's always plans, never action. They could start by cleaning up the streets and sidewalks. It's a filthy town.
