Good grief. Use the blinker when you make a 45 degree turn.

Interesting trend with this thread. A number of posters who joined months or even years ago are posting for the first, second or third time on this tread AND with such negative bully posts. Guess you can't discuss religion, politics and round abouts.

I don't mean to insult anyone on this thread and I have never discussed traffic circles with anyone at any great length, but any time I'm behind someone using their signal within a circle I find it distracting and confusing culminating with me calling that person an idiot. Am I missing something here ? Get in get out, that's about it. Using a signal just slows things up ! Traffic circles are common where I live in NY and I use them every day. I see a signal being used maybe once every few months, max. And that's plenty for me...I see absolutely no reason to signal within a circle.

I am one of the 5%!!

Wishful thinking in my opinion. I can see how it can work, but it's just not going to happen.

I cant tell you how many times i've pulled out in front of somebody that had their blinker on, but did not mean it. Probly us old people cant hear the blinkers clicking noise. Turns entering into and in circles are usually more gradual than a normal 90 degree turn, often the blinkers do not self cancel. Also, some blinkers do not 'take' when trying to turn them on when you are in the middle of circle, sort of turning all the time, so they self cancel. Therefore, I use my signals when they will work, and I TOTALLY ignore all other peoples signals.

Perfectly said. My thoughts exactly.

What's the sense of putting on your Turn Signal when no one’s gonna believe you're really turning.

Unfortunately, this is reality.

Ok that's it NY'er don't use signals Ricky D said it, seen it ever day in NY.:bigbow:

Your joking right? Does NY have single lane roundabouts only? If not that may be the problem?

How does flipping turning switch lever slow things up? Is yours connected to the brakes?

In our town we have two singles and one double. Nobody signals, and nobody is expected to signal. That's why it's confusing if someone does signal. I mean, it's only seconds from the time you enter till you exit. What's the point ? Everyone knows eventually you're gonna exit so why bother ? It's not a surprise, get it ? :icon_wink:
May I also add that's it's typical to actually accelerate through the circle. Kinda like gaining speed when a space capsule slingshots around a planet.

Ricky, when I enter a roundabout in the left lane with the intention of continuing on straight, I always use my signal at the point I "turn right" to go straight. I do this to let the car behind me to the right, and the driver impatiently entering the circle to my right, know just where I am going. Even when I signal, I'm still cautious.

Hey! I am not an idiot!

I use signals in the roundabouts. Most of the time. Especially when cutting across from the inside lane to exit. I am trying to let the person ready to enter know something is going to happen.

In fact, what you say here about finding signals distracting means that those signals get your attention. We serial signalers know that is the best we can hope for. -- On the other hand, I do not believe anybody's turn signals. I wait that couple of seconds it takes to see if they are going to do what they say they are going to do.

And, yeah, so ya got roundabouts in your hometown. Well, lots of us do not.

So, please, the next time you see a woman driving a white car with Florida plates and signaling her turns in the roundabouts, don't call her an idiot. And don't call her a bumpkin either, even though my city has only one roundabout that I know about. It is in one of the burbs.

Whatinthehellisthematterwithme??? I really do not want to get into an argument with RickeyD or anybody else. (sigh).....Oh, now I remember --I am avoiding cleaning my house.

Very good point. :)

And even if you don't like using signals in the roundabouts, you certainly shouldn't find fault in those that do. If they irritate you, you're probably in too much of a hurry.
