Not if they look before they "leap". Weren't we taught to look both ways before crossing the street? This is a very similar scenario......look before you enter a roadway.

I was sending her a message by laying on my horn. I'm originally from NY. That is how we communicate on the roads. She GOT the message. My voice was heard.

The person driving the cart was me. I honestly do not think this woman looked to see if there was any traffic coming in the cart lane. If she did, she would have stepped to the other side of the sidewalk onto the grass. I drove that section a half hour ago and made note that there is grass along the entire length of the sidewalk where this woman could have jumped on if, in fact, she was attempting to social distance from on coming pedestrians.

Re: the highlighted text above.......what if a person hops in front of a golf cart 5 feet in front of the cart as it is motoring along at 19.9 MPH? Is the golf cart driver STILL responsible for injuring or killing that person because they did not control their cart? At what point is it NOT the fault of the golf cart driver if a pedestrian decides to hop on the cart path in front of a golf cart which is in motion?

Sorry, but this is NOT small stuff. It is small stuff because I reacted to prevent hitting her. Any other driver may have shifted their gaze to something else and she would have been flattened.

Not everyone out of their Village homes should be, if you are if sound mind, be the bigger person , drive defensive , and expect the unexpected.
Think of all the many physical and mental issues Village folks have, be careful👍

I believe you are incorrect. In most of The Villages, north of 466 at least, there are no sidewalks, so pedestrians must share the lane with golf carts and bicycles. This is even on some very heavily trafficked roads, such as Morse Boulevard, Rio Grande, and Del Mar. Lake County even paints pictures of pedestrians, bicycles, and dog walkers in the lane to warn golf cart drivers they must share the lane and yield to the non-motorized users. Admittedly, if there is a line of car traffic paralleling the lane, the other users should make an effort to jump up on the grass or verge, even if it is uncomfortable to do so, which it often is because of heavy dew on the grass, uneven surfaces, shrubs, branches, etc. Still it is the moral and legal duty of the golf cart to yield to these other users by moving into the car lane (all the way in, not just a few inches) when it is safe to do so. I have seen many polite car drivers anticipate this and slow down to allow all users to proceed safely. Let's face it, good as the design of The Villages is, this is one of the most egregious flaws in its initial layout, at least in my opinion. Perhaps 20-30 years ago, they didn't expect seniors to walk or bike. How mistaken this assumption turned out to be. My mantra is give others the benefit of the doubt, reduce stress, and live longer.
