Maybe we should also ban religious symbols, political flags in front of homes and on golf carts and let's not forget those Gnomes. Look most of the people who live here in The Villages this is their last stop, I learn to tolerate many things I don't like with that in mind. But I still don't trust those creepy Gnomes what do think they do when we are all asleep.

I’ve been told they fly to the North Pole to help the elves make the toys.
Back again every morning ..they rest all day as they look at you with that vacant stare.

My gf competed in dirt bike racing when she was 5 years old, won when she was 10. She is now CEO of a large bank corporation and still a motoress.

Your choice

Notsocrates 06-20-2024 08:07 AM

I am educated, medically trained and I smoke about 4 or 5 cigars a month.
I enjoy it, and if I'm not driving, I enjoy a Scotch with it.
I will soon be 90, I can walk a treadmill at 3 mph at a 10 degree incline.
And it's due to cigars and Scotch.

JGibson 06-20-2024 08:25 AM

I don't like the smell of alcohol can we ban that from the square also? 😂

Let's try to be grateful for each day and allow others to be "different". Move your cart, walk away, smile; they may have a habit they can't conquer. Have a habit they can't conquer? Based on that standard, I think I'll start slamming heroine and relieving myself in the town square. That should go ever well - especially when the kids are in town visiting their grandparents. Soon, we'll be able to call ourselves San Francisco.

Thank God we have the freedom to have these arguments. :bigbow:

Restaurants tried having "smoking" and "non-smoking" sections inside but the ventilation systems weren't designed for it, so it didn't work. Outdoor dining areas increased in popularity so the smoking customers would have a place to go plus create a smoke free restaurant.

We are not smokers and enjoy dining outside, too. We try to sit as far away from the bar as possible because it seems that smokers congregate close to the bar. If that isn't available, we are flexible and just sit inside.

OhioBuckeye 06-20-2024 10:27 AM

They always say go outside if you want to smoke. Now they’re outside & then the non smokers don’t like that. I don’t smoke & never did, it makes your breath stink, your clothes stink & the smokers are trying to die sooner. Plus kissing someone that smokes is like kissing an ash tray, so as long as the smokers are outside personally they can kill themselves that much sooner, the smokers are doing what we want them to do, at least they’re outside & & it’s their right. So if you don’t like it, move to another spot.

You think cigar smoke is bad, just wait until they legalize pot. Smoke doesn't bother me unless someone purposely blows it into my face. Then we have a problem. I am surprised that some seniors on here are still complaining at this old age. Then again, I do not frequent the squares so I guess the whole issue is moot to me. I guess there is always something that triggers complaints from each of us. Just keep your dog off my lawn...:D

It won't be the same crowd that smokes pot going to the squares. I'm not worried about that at all.

If pot is legalized in Florida you still won't be allowed to use at the squares.

You would be fine in California

Kentucky doesn’t allow indoor smoking.

The latest information I can find says Kentucky does not have a statewide ban on indoor smoking.

There are several municipalities that have local ordinances. According to this site, 38.1% of Kentuckians are protected by laws covering indoor workplaces and public places.

Is Martina playing in the squares this evening? Will competition you mention include team smoking? If not, then what does this have to do with tolerating smokers around the squares? (or maybe you posted this in the wrong thread)

That the same as "vagrants"?

My father was born in Kentucky. Lots of jokes about KY! While traveling in KY two years ago we stopped at a restaurant for breakfast. As we got up to pay the bill, to my amazement a guy lit up a cigarette. I ask the server taking my credit card if that was legal. “Yes sir in the county she said”. We went on our merry way.

I like what one of my graduate school professors use to say: “I don’t grade your papers on your grammar but rather on the content of your paper.”

Bilyclub 06-21-2024 03:14 PM

A smoker is perfectly within their rights to smoke in permitted areas, but that doesn't make it legal to throw butts wherever they feel like it. Besides being disgusting it is littering.

Seriously

With all the challenges in the world today is this really one of them ? Smokers have been for the most part isolated from those who don’t want to have that around them. However I believe most of us in the villages love the freedom America provides us. So completely eliminating something those already have significant restrictions to comply with just doesn’t seem like the American thing to do.

It's insane / unnatural / perverted.

What's a little cigar smoke among neighbors who aren't trying to pervert the next generation?

You know what's REALLY perverted/insane/unnatural - is being SO upset by only .5% (one half of one percent) of people in the USA, that you'd have to find a topic about smoking to complain about it.

Different point of view. Doing what you want is great. You are free to do that until what ever it is negativly impacts someone else's right to do what they want. You can walk anywhere as long as you don’t walk over others. You can drink as long as others don't have to also drink. And you can use tobacco/nicotine as long as no one else has to us it. Smoking in public puts others in the position of being forced to breath the smoke that needn't be present. Even if it's only one breath, one drink or being trodden on one time. Only the addicted "need" their fix. Do it in private or wear a patch or eat a nicotine gummie. Smoking is unnecessary and does no one any good.
Next?

When the smoke is drifting halfway across the square and entering my nostrils, the smoker IS imposing their lifestyle on other people. That is an imposition. I'm minding my own business halfway across the square - and YOUR smoke is imposing on my breathing. I shouldn't have to move. You should have to keep your smoke to yourself. Y'know - so it doesn't impose on other people.

WOW! I'm convinced! We should start toddlers in preschool on scotch and cigars so they will grow up strong and healthy and live long lives, just like you. 😏🙄
