Using this approach is superior, in my opinion as you can build in if this then that. If the door is open at 10pm, close it, if it is garbage day open the door at 7am and turn on the hall light to remind me. Your imagination is the limit. And it is cheaper and easier than replacing the entire opener.

Sorry Toymeister NOT all garage doors openers can be used with WiFI garage door controllers like MyQ. Most have openers like MVP use Data to the opener and not a switch closure.
There are ways to do it with a modification with a remote control 3 button opener, MVPs use data signal after 2011. You need some soldering skills and techy experience.
I will not debate this, way to many negative and know it all's here.
Good luck folks!
P>S MyQ is a good way to have a 2nd monitoring feature until you replace the opener in the future, BTW 1/2 hp is plenty enough power if the Balancing springs are adjusted correctly.

Not true, sorry. You can add a hub and sensors to many garage doors that allow them
To be viewed/operated by your phone/iPad. I added a sensor to each garage door and then 1 hub so both sensors will communicate with my iphones/iPads.
Why would anybody want to have remote access to their garage doors? There are many:
Check to see if your doors are closed from anywhere in the world, close or open then remotely, and others.
Using an app on your phone/iPad is the old way of communicating with your garage doors or really anything in your house.
I have my whole house automated and controlled thru 1 app that allows me to say over my iPhone/Apple Watch/iPads: open my garage door, or open/close my front door, or turn on lights, music, and better: I have 1 button that allows me to hit to close everything and I have a schedule that closes or turns off device at certain times.
If you use apple, this is all provided for free if you buy the supported devices and/or run a free app on a computer (Mac or linux) that uses plugins for non-supported devices.

I think you should reread my post, I said Some MVP openers, the frequency is 318 and MyQ won't communicate!!!! But there is a way in doing it if you are knowledge enough. Like I said to many know it all's that do not do there research!

I know two things. My MVP would not work with the My Q without additional parts and modification. The MVP is the worst opener and couldn't be farther from the truth in naming it Allstar MVP.

True but there is a way of making it work and using MyQ as a 2nd monitor.
Tuya has a unit on Amazon and using a remote control with it. I made one and have it online now but you need soldering skills.
