Local businesses like Village Alarm also offer this service with a security system.

I like the Eufy smart lock E330 where you can use a key, finger print reader, code, and or phone to open and close. It does about everything one would want of a smart lock with no online fees. The rechargeable battery goes a long time before needing to recharge. I use it in the Villages and at the condo in Hudson. And, have also installed it in two other Village friends house as it is very easy to install.

Another vote for the Schlage wireless and keyless locks. I have NO handyman skills and was able to install it myself. Been using it for a about 2 years with no problems. Seems to be a quality product.

I use the Yale Assure Lock 2 (wireless but also has a key option with it) - batteries do die.

If an electronic lock is used on a rental, what assurance would the renter have that the lock would not be remotely unlocked, potentially without the renter’s knowledge or consent?

Blank wifi ssids are easy to find, but cracking wpa2 is not.

That said, tall the locks I have seen require an app with a username and password.

Doing all that is too hard when breaking a window is easy. The window break can be done quite silently, but I will not post how.

The word of the owner. Same thing the owner gets that the renters will not steal stuff from the home.

Sounds like the owner who uses an electronic lock could be subject to an expensive lawsuit if anyone were to open that lock while the renter has domicile inside IMO.

Kwikset is nice, but the battery life is terrible.

Be sure your system includes an old fashion key so you can get in when the electricity or internet is off.

Battery operated and the codes should be stored in the lock - internet and power are not necessary.

Still nice to have a key to fall back on and all the units I have seen have one.

Pay extra and get a Schlage. . Best lock on the market. Uses same tumbler as Baldwin. I have them on my Villages home and on my cottage in Michigan. Avoid kwikset and big box house brands - cheap mechanism and easy to pick. Full disclosure- my son is a senior electronic lock engineer a Schlage. But he has shown me a number of the competitor’s locks and there is a big difference in quality. Also, you can get an Apple lock made by Schlage that has some Apple bells and whistles.

Economical choice
 

I use the Wyze product. Operates on most models of door locks ( you don't have to change door lock sets and can use your key) I also use their camera doorbell with audio included to speak to the person. Have them on two houses works fine.

Yes. I am using one on a room that their is not access too other than the door that has the lock. Also if you are depending on your garage door opening if your lock is not working the electric to it could be out.

It would be easier to just break a glass window and crawl right in.
