Thus, we are all paying for the development of the vaccine and for its administration. If it turns out that we need to be vaccinated every year or get a booster, the drug companies will be charging much more, pharmacies and doctors’ offices will be charging, and insurance companies will be billed. This isn’t being done out of the goodness of people’s hearts. It makes money for all the companies and businesses involved.

Making money. People are people. Many think they should get more, higher pay, bigger pension etc. These same people expect drug companies should invest many millions to develop new drugs. Pay for the tests to prove the drug is effective and safe and then give it away.
In terms of reading. We have yet to hear what it is costing us, at least the people who pay taxes per shot. I seem to recall reading that the Moderna shot costs less than the Pfizer shot. Each is about as effective and both require two shots. Also, Moderna was listed as American owned. Pfizer is owned by several nations. China is one, the others, if I recall are Japan, Germany, England and the US. The one from Johnson and Johnson is a one injection and less effective than the first two.
I doubt it was ever tested in the sort of test needed to bring a drug to market but, I've read you can take the Moderna and the the Pfizer as your second shot. Lasting immunity. Need for future boosters. Covid 19 has only been around for roughly a year.
Long term? Truth is we do not know. Yet, WE demand to know what is not known.
