We moved here 10 years ago now already opening windows at around 7:00pm.

This is our second summer here and I love it! I bike early in the morning, then come back and read the paper. Then I go out and do some gardening until 10:30 AM or so then have lunch and go to the pool for the rest of the day. Then maybe mow the lawn and get ready for dinner out or cook something up. The theme here is that you adjust your schedule to the weather and heat. The other thing I notice is that when I go to the pool everyday I usually see the same twenty people. There are not that many people who use our pool. That's OK with us as we enjoy our "private neighborhood" pool. I think by going outside and enjoying a Florida summer you will find there are many things to do. Sure I will enjoy the cooler weather when it comes, but the pool water starts to get cold in November. Is Florida hotter in the summer than New Hampshire? Yes it is.

Oh no! I thought the water was kept heated year round in the pools! I'm counting on swimming every day. Really, can you use the pools in January?

If you can't take the heat, get out of the fire. Find a nice cool vacation spot for a month to break it up and come back refreshed and happy to be here. That way, people will not talk about how rude and grumpy you are as they do in another thread.

It has been a weird summer up north too. More rain than ever. But cool nights for great sleeping. Too cool for the pool.

Florida is sub-tropical. Humans are designed to live comfortably in a moderate climate, not tropical nor arctic. And where would that be? not Florida.

My answer to the OP's original question: I've been in Central/South Florida for 43 years and for that many years I can tell you that the 2nd week in October is always the "transition" time when the humidity goes away and cooler days and nights prevail. Let's see if I can make it 44????

The average historical temps from weather.com seem to be pretty comparable to this year.

Last year a couple people mentioned to me that 2013 was the hottest summer they'd ever seen. I just nodded vacantly, since I'm good at that.

I'm not trying to minimize or discount anyone's experiences, just that I'm with the group who haven't noticed any big differences. My A/C bill is averaging the same as it always has.

But cooler is coming! We've also been opening our windows a little earlier in the evenings now.

We are seasonal and own a home in TV. This past mid August, Hubby and I went on a cruise then spent 8 days in TV. One reason was to see what it was like in the middle of the summer and another reason was to get a few things done in the house. We were pleasantly surprised at how tolerable the heat and humidity was at this time of year. We did not do anything outside in the middle of the day but that is how we surviced for 24 years living in South Florida. Actually, central Florida seemed a bit better to us, weather wise. We loved it in TV in the mornings and evenings. Nothing wrong with spending the hottest part of the day indoors in the A/C.

The pools are heated to 83 degrees in the winter. If it is really cold outside, you can see the "steam" coming off the water. I love to swim in the winter when the water feels so soothing and warm. It isn't fun getting out of the water though!

I just love TV in the summer -- no crowds -it just takes a little getting used to - have to drink more kool-aid
