Some people find them very relaxing, but should be limited in size
|
We have a rookery within 50 yards of our garden, and jackdaws nesting all around.
No way are you going to hear wind chimes, which is absolutely fine by me! |
So should dogs
|
So should people who let their dogs urinate, defecate and walk up onto your property

Unwanted noise
The one thing that I found that worked is ask the people to put the wind chimes on the other side of their house. Let them know that you value them as a neighbor, but you find the noise very distracting and you love to sit on your lani and read, but you can't.

One of our neighbors had them. They were "neutered" one night and quiet for a long time. Suddenly they were back for a couple of days and then disappeared altogether. The video surveillance never did identify who did it... I would buy that person dinner if I knew who it was!
|
Yes they are very annoying. Thankfully I am not around any, but I do see them as I’m walking my dog around the area, and it would be a problem if it was next door to me. Just saying!

one of our abutting neighbors has wind chimes, sits out back and front smoking cigarettes....and has an annoying little dog that barks at everything and they let the thing out alone at night to do poop where ever in hockey you hope for "a hat trick"....unfortunately this isn't hockey and they see themselves as 'entitled'... They're 'night owl bar flies'...we can't wait for their favorite watering hole to reopen once the covid-19 stay home order is lifted. |
True windchimes are beautiful
True Windchimes should sound as a lovely chord does on a piano. I happen to have a windchime in the key of C. Each chime is a part of a C chord. Lovely.

I don't think people realize how far and loud sound travels out of their lani's. Lani's are like speaker megaphones and amplify sound. Hello I can hear your entire conversation, also playing music on the lani that you can hear 6 blocks away.
|
But you are also....

We have a windchime. We got it to keep the squirrels off of our screens. Our neighbors have very loud conversations out on their screened lanai, a barking dog that they let out without a leash, and then they yell at the dog to "shut-up" when it is barking. All this takes place after midnight. Which would you complain about?
|
I like the sound of them. I find it’s sounds soothing. Maybe you ask them to limit it to a couple of wind chimes .

Trespassing, dumping raw sewage on a neighbor's property (picking up the larger more solid evidence but leaving behind the residue) is irresponsible dog ownership. It is disgusting to observe. It is disrespectful to your neighbors. It shows a sense of (here is that word) entitlement, to subvert your neighbor's property for your own selfish use. Your neighbor's yard is not a public dog park/toilet. Unless you have been invited, keep off the grass and out of the flower beds. And before you call me a dog hater, know that I have had 8 dogs of various breeds, mostly large, in the course of my 74 years. I love dogs but hate irresponsible insensitive dog owners who think that because they have a dog the rules of common courtesy and respect for other people's property does not apply to them. |
Seriously....
I thought I moved to TV to get away from petty complaining. Don’t like my chimes, maybe I don’t like your cigarette smells, cigar smells, the sound of your chugging golf cart. If you notice most of the homes are close together. Maybe farther out in the country with a lot of land around you. I love my home here. And by the way I like it’s a small world.

No no no !!!
Like fingernails on a chalkboard ....

I have to agree that the wind chime sounds, barking dogs & etc. does bother me. It doesn’t bother me if I hear the noises once in a while but wind chimes seem to go on forever. My hearing has been affected by my Menieres Disease so background noises seem to echo in my head which causes me to have severe headaches . I know that is my problem but as we age some background sounds do affect elderly people more. Close living is not easy. I applaud the ladies husband of being considerate of their neighbors. If we all would just take the time to consider how our actions would affect others around us. Not picking up your dogs poop ruins it for everyone that does. It is very disturbing when I see dog poop laying anywhere on the ground. Hot summer months the poop smells terrible. No one should have to deal with it. I love taking my dog everywhere. I am condiderate of others by training her not to bark, picking up her poop, & she is in a stroller when going into stores. My dog has never been turned away because they know she is well behaved and I am a considerate dog owner. Those who are not should be turned away. Same goes for children. Their misbehaving, screams and running around stores & crowded areas is very annoying. I am not perfect but I was raised to be considerate of others. I know others appreciate it as well.

Sounds like some people need to learn to relax. Wind chimes are one of the most calming sounds in the universe.

My daughter thinks death metal music at full blast is one of the most calming sounds in the universe.

If you like the sound of wind chimes listen to them on your headphones... don’t make EVERYBODY else listen to them too.
|
We have a set that we use only when we use the lanai. My wife cut up a pool noodle into small sections that slide over the individual pipes and prevent the striker from contacting them. We place those on the chimes whenever we’re not outside. We never leave the chiming when we’re not there and we don’t leave them chiming for more than a half hour or so even when we’re out there.
