I am a new owner of a home that is 25 years old. I would like to replace the windows but I have no idea what the cost would be.
Woman that lives alone and Reluctant to call someone in and get high pressured. Would love to have an idea of the approximate cost before I talk to someone. Anyone have an idea of cost and best place to call for a reasonable price.

My villa was built in 2016. I am the second owner and was able to transfer the warranty for $50. ROMAC is changing two window panes for the cost of labor only. However, the labor cost is $300.

Called Romax, near Lady Lake and they replaced mind. Outstanding experience.

The Villages use basic builders grade windows. Many lose their seal.

You may be right. I know a couple in Dabney had every single window replaced in new house. But I think it was due to poor installation.

Doubtful, and you shouldn't spread rumors. If you have some actual proof then please provide it.

This can be a process. If you are the original owner they are under warranty for 10 years. If you are not the original owner, then you need to figure out who the warranty is through. Then make sure you have paid to have the warranty transferred. Sometimes even dealing with the Villages Office it takes a few calls to figure out what window company you have to deal with. Once you find them then jumping through the hoops can be started. It is not a quick process.

Although sad, it is true. I have installed a couple that failed, but several dozen windows and glass doors did not fail. Usually.....this failure is NOT due to the installer, but how the window was handled during shipping or stocking. Any twist will cause a seal to break or a hard jar of the frame. Builder grade at big box stores are notorious for cheap build items and gorilla luggage handling of those products. I won't give a labor warranty on a window or glass door ordered from L or H stores.

I once ordered 12 windows for a customer from Lowes. When I went to pick up, they brought all the windows laying flat on carts. I immediately refused...why?...because you should not store or put windows down for any length of time because the seals can easily break. Once installed, it could be weeks or months before you see the failure between the glass. I advised the customer a 6'x6' case window on the second story can be a nightmare to replace 4 months later and a charge of $1200 just to replace under warranty if they go builder grade or any big box store purchase.

I would see if new owner can get a warranty switched over, a fee would be reasonable. But paying for labor to remove a window under warranty is horrible. There are companies that will back their own windows and they install them. No cost to owner, at least where I came from. Florida is odd.

BTW, there is no way to tell if a seal is bad. It could be broken below the area you can see and as the temp changes, the pull from seal to glass expands working it's way to the edge of the seal where it's visible, then poof, condensation, dust, et cetera. Could be a year or more.

You called it correctly. Condensation is anything that is on the outside, or not commonly, can be inside, if temp difference between the house or enclosed lanai and the outdoors temperature is significant. Easy to tell as you defined it, wipe your finger across it and if it smears it is condensation. It also will disappear as the day warms up. Strange, but the right window may have it and the left one not.

Working in the glass warranty business most manufacturers will pay for the glass for 20 years, yes look for the stamp etched in the corner for manufacturer name, but only labor for one year.

At 25 years old, I am guessing the house is stick built with siding (?) and possibly the old style aluminum framed windows (?) all of these details will have a significant impact on the cost info you are requesting. It would probably be better if you reposted your request with more info to get reasonable answers and recommendations.

Call Todd Hunter, 352-217-1401. He repairs/replaces these windows all day long. Knows what is/isn't warranted (most ARE, I beleive). Sounds like a lot of bad info on this topic but we have used him a few times and recommend him without hesitation.
