Both are very tragic and sad . . . . . .

They are two tragic incidents, indeed.

I have never understood how a car is involved in a crash with a train. The driver of the car basically has to either stop on the track or is racing to cross the track before the train. All the crossings around here have the crossing guard rails that come down well before the train arrives. There can be no accident. It is either suicide or alcohol related.

Of course, I do feel much sorrow for the officer.

Or the car stalled on the tracks. I have seen this happen.

I do, also, especially because he arrived at the scene not knowing it was his wife involved in the crash. Other officers sent him back to the station before he became aware of what had happened.

Prayers for him and his family are offered.

Or downright stupidity.

Several years ago, we had two cases of people listening too closely to their GPS devices. In both cases, the GPS told the driver to make a turn, and the drivers both turned onto railroad tracks, resulting in collisions with passenger commuter trains.

NO JOKE !!

Not long ago, I was sitting at a railroad crossing with the gates down and in my sideview mirror I saw a car coming - then I watched in disbelief as the guy zig zagged through the downed gates. If he had stalled or been hit by the train, I was a "sitting duck" because he probably would have been pushed into me. That's how innocent people get killed - stupidity of others sometimes. :cus:

Or............... like in Lexington over a year ago, a college student was on her cell phone texting her sister and did not see the train.

You are right. I debated whether or not to make the original post. I let the sensational, thrill seeking, nosey part of me come out. But you are absolutely correct. I feel like a heel. God bless her family and others whose lives were touched by this.

I do have a heart, Barefoot, but I was pointing out an act of stupidity that could have gotten someone killed.

Sometimes, bad things happen out of acts of stupidity. In the two posts that you highlighted, a - crossing gates were placed for a reason, and, b - one should pay attention to what his GPS unit "says." They are very accurate, but they are a little "off."

"Just saying," and no disrespect meant to the suicide victim.

Daily Sun has a small article

on Page C-1:

"A 64-year-old woman found dead on a Villages golf course Monday died of an apparent suicide, according to the Lady Lake Police Dept.
Orange Blossom Hills golf course employees found the woman's body at about 7 a.m. and reported it to Lady Lake police."

hedoman 03-14-2012 05:16 AM

This thread was about a woman found dead at OB. Speculation and guesses were offered until the actual facts were known. Question answered but NOOOOOOO this thread has to continue with inane comments. This is why TOTV is being reduced to no more than an adult chat forum.

Again the truth of a previous post that too much misinformation is being offered because people want us to think they "Know" when in actuality they are making it up as they go....

It's killing the credibility of those posters who actually do know what's going on around here becuse there ARE here and have a thumb on the pulse.

Moving on.........

Today's Daily Sun has an article on the accident. There were no arms or lights at this crossing. So this statement is not true......what was the source of your information about guard rails??
