They say that kissing lanais are one of the main reasons that the "average Villager moves 3 times".
We knew when we looked at homes that we wanted to spend time on the Lanai relaxing and did not want to be able to look into, and hear conversations from our next door neighbors lanais, and the 3 homes behind us. We quickly decided we would prefer a road or a wall. Either one offers much more privacy and each has advantages and disadvantages. It was too big a risk for us to take, expecting to have quiet neighbors in the 5 homes in hearing range of our lanai. We ended up on a pretty busy road. But our view is absolutely phenomenal and the traffic is really not an issue for us. Many of our neighbors have enclosed their lanais due to the traffic, but we love the open feel and after 6pm, there really is no traffic. We have much more privacy I feel than we would have on an interior lot. Our neighbors across the street all back up to villa walls and they love their lots as well. 3 of them have moved from homes with kissing lanais. Hopefully you can make nice with the noisy neighbors and the offer of headphones will be accepted graciously. Hedges, and white noise would be my next option at that point. If they are just obnoxious and really not concerned about their impact on your life thencall the sheriff's office and maybe that will get their attention. Good luck!! |
I cannot imagine putting a t.v. on my lanai.
And if someone is hard of hearing they should NOT have a t.v. outside. Talk about being inconsiderate! We ended up spending a lot more not to be in a kissing lanai situation. We should all try to be more considerate of each other. |

I once toured a timeshare and the salesman boasted how each unit came with it's own karaoke machine. |

Think of the great parties people could have on their kissing lanais. :throwtomatoes::faint: |
Our house has kissing lanais. Our neighbors eat most meals on their lanai. We will be busy doing whatever it is retired people do when all of a sudden we hear her setting the table. We laugh and say lunch time.

Tv's in kissing lanais are rude
In my opinion Tv's and loud music in kissing lanais are rude. With all the rules in the villages you would think this one would have been added.
When we rented last year one of the houses behind had speakers wired in the lanai and we could hear their music blaring out anytime they were home even though they were very seldom on the lanai. But I might try giving the neighbor brochures or printouts from the net for wireless speakers with volume control that they could set right by their chair it is what I have as I too am a little hard of hearing and it allows me to hear without having the overall volume up so loud. Also a universal remote would turn off their set, when no one is there and they have left it running. The distance they work is quite far and you could probably stand in your lanai and adjust both the volume or turn off their set but that really would start a war. |

A karaoke machine? I think that might cause some fights.
We had a neighbor way down the block have a Bunco night out on their lanai. The yelling and screaming (at the top of their lungs) went on for over 3 hours. It went on from about 6 until after 9. I finally heard the next door neighbor blow his top. |
