Simple smart phone provides the same protection.

Some of the suggestions sound funny to me, why would MIL resent being tracked? And not grateful instead for people being concerned about her safety.... how many people living alone would give anything for someone to care in the first place. That is unless she is a career criminal with a vested interest in being invisible. ;)

WOW - FYI human tracker are used all the time for wander issues both old & young. Our friend had the tracker function on his wife phone because she is directionally challenged. But when he called us in the car (I was driving) and told us exactly where we where I told her to leave her phone at home when with me. FYI - I am NOT directionally challenged and I have GPS on my phone & car. I do not need to be tracked. But she loves it when she gets lost. I Consided putting a tile on my cousin's key chain who was starting to have dementia but never did it. If the person is just directionally challenged - then it needs to be a choice and they should be aware. If it is a medical need for safety that is another thing.

The next time my mother-in-law stays with us here in The Villages and since The Villages is so large and confusing, I strongly suggested to my wife to attach the Apple tracking device to her mother since her mother is in her 70's. In the past, I used to slip an old I-Phone inside my golf cart when my mother-in-law traveled by herself and used the location finder app to at least track the golf cart when she traveled solo.

My wife believes this is an invasion of privacy and I believe its a safety issue.
Any suggestion to convince my wife ?

I’ve told my wife to track me just in case. Lately I’ve been forgetting things so I might as well get ready before hand. Besides i have nothing to hide.

if you don't abuse it, it's a good idea.

Not against the law if you put it in your own golf cart, with or without their knowledge.
You're tracking your cart to find it if it's stolen.

ALSO, the Apple Airtag is only good for something probably less than 50 yards away.
Same thing with Tile.

As others have mentioned, if you want a full time tracker they're cheap but then there's a monthly fee of about $5 to $15.

Not exactly. The Airtag uses bluetooth to announce it's location to any near by apple device that has bluetooth. If any other device is within bluetooth range, then you can be on the other side of the world and see on your Find My app where the tag is. Every Apple device participates in the "Find My" network, "secretly", and the owner the device that forwarded the location has NO IDEA and NO way to know that it happened.

There are 1.65 billion Apple devices arounds the world. It is possible your Airbag will not be near one, but unlikely around here. Also, there is a 'last location" feature when says where it was the last time it was within range of a device.

Just use the app Life360, free and she can control when she does not want to be seen. Works great!

in this case it has more to do with safety. if the person has cognitive issues, it's a no-brainer. if i 'lost' my spouse in the square, there's no need to worry, i could collect him & be on our way. if the person is of sound mind, i can see where your concern arises

Loss of privacy? Hmm I’m just trying to visualize a possible scenario. MIL decides to take the cart to Winn Dixie at Sumter. Takes the wrong turn gets on round about, goes north on the Morse bridge instead of south ends up in some village around Spanish Springs. (Happened to me once) groceries are thawing... no she would absolutely not want her family to help her out. Her privacy is at stake!

I appreciate everyone's concern with their own personal freedom and individuality but I'm referring to common sense and the safety of our loved ones. It's a fact of life, as we get older, the percentage of exhibiting signs of dementia increase and that's a fact some of us here haven't accepted. The same way I have concern for my MIL due to her diminished mental capacity, I have great concern when I see an older individual driving their cars or golf carts very "cautiously and slowly" and I'm not talking about "all" older people but those with diminished capacity.

If you are responsible for someone’s safety or well-being, use every and any tool you have to fulfill your responsibility. If she is your guest and would look to you for assistance should she get lost, of course you should track her, and she should be glad you care enough to do so.

I agree.. drive 1100 miles 2x a year to and from The Villages... feel perfectly competent... could apply to someone in their 50’s.. depending on mental ability not age!

Great and I am glad YOU have no problems with your ability to maneuver within The Villages, but the day will come when everyone, including yourself and myself that we all will need help getting around. Its just a matter of fact.
