Younger drivers and roundabouts

I hear so much about the dangers of seniors navigating roundabouts, but I guarantee you if there were a lot of roundabouts in places like Orlando where there are a lot of young drivers it would be catastrophic.

If the roundabout is well designed, catastrophic results are not nearly as certain as your guarantee states.

Wasn’t that your intent?

At the present time these "roundabouts' serve no useful purpose because they do not replace intersections that would require some sort of traffic control. Come to think of it, they're like the OP.

Watch your neighbor and use your blinkers. What I hate is when they cut in front of you IN the roundabout.

Clearly this is a special case. Typically we say that the roundabout is an intersection. The left lane approaching the roundabout may only go straight or left. The right lane may only go straight or right. At these locations you describe Buena Vista is actually the only road...(obviously that might change in the future, why else put a roundabout in this location?) But, I digress. The saying is still true. Right lane goes right or straight (in this case there is only one option straight). Left lane goes left or straight.

Bingo

The problem is , the statement in this heading is wrong.

So the thinking about roundabouts is wrong IMO. Simply stated

1. Those coming into any roundabout must yield to those in the roundabout.
2. Two lanes coming into a roundabout weather going straight -180 degrees, or 90 degrees straight —-in this case , one’s car can never cross over each others lanes.
3 . read the signs at each roundabout. They all show the same thing from YOUR view. Never crossing into another lane in the roundabout.

You want to save on car insurance and headaches? Never go through a roundabout side by side with other cars.

It’s interesting that you chose this turn. This roundabout was constructed by the state not the developer. It is my understanding this extension was built as another exit off Meggison Rd. The sign indicates both lanes turning and STAYING in your lane.

These endless discussions about the roundabouts and even more endless accidents in them just proves there should never be 2 lanes in any of them. It is a recipe for endless disasters with as many "understandings" about how to navigate them. I am always nervous everytime I enter one.

Where was the latest RAB accident caused by two lanes?

There have been several that were caused by speed but I don’t recall any caused by two lanes. There must be some, but if there have been many then I need better sources of information.

Yesterday, there was a woman at a dead stop in the RAB. My husband had to jam on the breaks not to rear end that car. Oh well, such is life in the RABs.

I even asked TV to post "Signal Your Intent" signs upon entering all round abouts. Nothing came of that. Geeeez. Who would have thunk.

And you are willing to bet your life that the other driver will do what his signal indicates???
