Fueled by the media, yes, but also do WE all realizing what is happening to US ? Just read some of the things on here, actually they are "threats" to others, predicting their futures will be dark and debilitating even if they get well from the Covid ! WHAT is all that about ? When did people turn so ugly that they tell their friends and neighbors, "good luck buddy, even if you get well you'll NEVER be the same, you'll always have heart, breathing, etc. problems.... etc." WHY have we turned on each other like this ? Not long ago a neighbor would have had a heart attack, or serious pneumonia, and such and COMMON HUMAN CARING and DECENCY would dictate that we would say: " don't worry, you are going to be fine, your doing great, etc." Now we've stooped so low on here as to threaten people who may already be fearful, and predict (maybe with NO medical education at all) all the terrible things they will suffer the rest of their lives IF they get the virus and recover. Is this to make people HOPE they die if they do get it ? All this vicious hate, why why why ? Can't we ever encourage others, EVER ?

What you are asking is to sugar coat the facts that what is being found out about this virus is that an infected person may have a poor prognosis to being healthy after contracting Covid. These facts are not used as scare tactics but to educate people about the findings of the scientists and physicians of patients who have recovered from Covid. Not everyone will have these complications and at this point, it is not known which complications will be life long. I'm all for learning more about this disease that may wind up effecting me or a loved one. I'm accepting of any and all information that is available to me.

ABsolutely right. Why no one will tell us how many people in The Villages itself have died is beyond me. Is this a secret?

I can tell you from working in a Federal Government research hospital affiliated with Brown University, I get daily up to date Covid info to my .gov email that I am mandated to review from all the DC agencies along with the Covid research being done at Brown. That being said I have yet to read any info from all these sources about long-term effects of Covid. And the reason for that is that nobody who has already contracted Covid has lived long enough post recovery to experience what would be considered a long-term effect. So if you are finding information that is predicting a poor long-term prognosis for someone who has contracted and recovered from Covid that is speculative at best. And I don't see any useful purpose in sharing speculative info without noting the source from which it originated from so one would have the opportunity to review it and come to their own conclusions regarding it's validity.

The propaganda media are panic mongers. Sorry bunch of people.

Everyone wants to blame somebody. One country is the reason and USA isn't the reason.

I would really encourage people to go to the website worldometers.info. Look for the US Coronavirus page and click on Florida. That will give you a wealth of facts on cases here in Florida.

One chart is the daily cases going back to the beginning. It show a rising trend through summer that peaks at over 15,000 cases in July. The numbers trend down through August and into September and were consistently below 5,000 cases a day. Over the past 10 days two days have been over 5,000. So we may be beginning to see an upward trend but it is really too early to know for sure. However, we are nowhere near where we were in July.

Another interesting chart is the number of active cases in Florida. These peaked in August at over 500,000. Active cases are now around 200,000. Same trend with deaths, peaking and on a downward trend.

I hope you will look at these charts and make your own mind up about the current risk and what precautions you should take. Don’t take others opinions, look at data and make your own call on what to do.

The problem with that is that Florida is a such a big state that the overall numbers don't mean a lot to individuals. They would be having huge increases in Miami-Dade. Broward and Palm Beach counties while cases in The Villages are dropping.

The problem with The Villages is that very few statistics are actually taken from The Villages. They are usually done by county. So even though we can see numbers from the three counties, we don't know how many of those cases are in The Villages proper.

Lake is a big county with only a small section in The Villages. The same can be said for Marion. Sumter has the prison where the number of cases is going to be higher than the outside world.

So just because Florida or any of the three counties goes up or down, that doesn't mean that the same holds true for The Villages.

I think that the poster may have been referring to the long term effects of being placed on a ventilator.

Roughly 20% of Covid-19 patients require hospitalization but only about 5% require a ventilator. Being placed on a ventilator had been a death sentence for many patients and those that survived did experience long term issues.

However, an increasing number of those placed on a ventilator are surviving and with fewer long term effects than previous numbers. Perhaps the health care professionals are learning to use ventilators in a better way.

Day after day, after day. Attacks on others. Accuse each other.

Then, always, blame those who report all of it, ignoring and applauding those in the middle of it all.

You would think the entire country would applaud any action to slow down the virus, etc.

We used to divide on health care, or economics, etc.

Now we ignore whatever the issue and simply widen the divide by simply attacking those we are told are the "other side". And we are doing it more openly and more mean spirited than ever before in history.

Families of those suffering must be heart broken, at best, as how fellow Americans respond to this challenge. Our country looks weak and uninformed, and most importantly deaf to anyone other than those who agree with us.

I doubt that. Do you have a reference? Assuming I interpreted the CDC data correctly, it appears that recently the hospitalization rate is about 2%. A rate of 20% may be true for those over 65 but not for young people. The COVID-19 statistics vary greatly with age. Perhaps you are referring to people who have serious symptoms? The vast majority are either asymptomatic or have minor symptoms. According to the Florida COVID-19 dashboard, the hospitalization rate is about 6% (for Florida).

The Question

The original question was why does the Village Newspaper bury the local statistics that are related to the number and spread of the Covid-19 virus?? Moving the data from Page 1 to hard to find on Section A8 is clearly an attempt to "hide the numbers". Again this is a fact and not open to being arguable! A bunch of the responses to this question have nothing to do with the question. Even to the point that some try to make a joke out of a very scary desease. Again..why do you believe the data is being downplayed to the public?
Please stay on the subject. :ho:

Waldo

It's find "Waldo" time. Can anyone find the Covid-19 numbers in the Daily Sun today? If so
you win the "Find Waldo" challenge.:a040:

On the top of my computer screen, way up there where it says https://www.talkofthevillages..etc? You just type in the word "Coronavirus" or the word "Covid-19.

That is how we get right up to the minute numbers of deaths and new cases. We can see them by the State of Florida, or by the county or the country.

Right now the country is up and Sumter County doesn't seem to be increasing and Florida isn't rising at this time.

Just type in Coronavirus up there and BINGO. You don't have to get mad at The Daily Sun. Maybe they know this trick too and figure everyone knows it and don't put numbers on the front page. Maybe too because at this time Sumter County and Florida do not seem to be in an uptick. I really expected the numbers to rise here in Sumter because of the rally ten days ago.
