If we are going to ban all dogs because a few owners don't pick up after them, I propose we ban all grandchildren based on the ones that are a problem...

My grandchild does not poop on your front lawn!

Instead of piling onto the o.p. for allegedly saying her 11 grandkids never did anything wrong and thus she's judged by some here to be wearing blinders, read what she actually said:
"I have 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. and not one them has every behaved in such a manner (they are not allowed to drive the Golf cart without me or my husband)."
She was talking about their use of the cart, not their every deed while away from them and at school or elsewhere.

The parents and grandparents who are allowing the kids to take the cart without supervision are the ones who need to be nailed.

Creative editing job. This is the whole thing she said: I yelled and they just laughed and shot the usual finger sign. I was furious, and ready to turn around and go after them, but my husband, said lets go home and have a glass of wine. I cannot understand, why young people have such disrespect. I have 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. and not one them has every behaved in such a manner (they are not allowed to drive the Golf cart without me or my husband).

She was talking mainly about children giving her the finger and having such disrespect. Then she said hers would never do that (i.e., give the finger or show disrespect). The part about hers not being allowed to drive the golf cart was an "oh, by the way."

I agree with nailing the grandparents, but the part where people tried to open her eyes about her grandchildren was spot on as well.

Even adults who are visiting their Villages relatives should have some sort of indoctrination. Yesterday we saw an adult (early-mid 30's) driving a golf cart (with kids) around the circle outside of the Caroline gate. I was a rider in the car and was able to see that there were no seat belts (we assume the cart was not street legal), as the cart went around the circle back towards Wynn Dixie. I don't know if the woman knew she was in the wrong place but if so, she should have tried to exit over to the Caroline gate to get help.

Staying with the topic "young people and golf carts"nothing will be done until there is a serious mishap....and then watch for the recriminations.

Sort of amazing, isn't it, that with all the posts about the unsafe driving habits of young people driving golf carts that there have bee NO accidents with them?

The unnamed on line paper certainly would have them reported.

I'm sure there are a few wild and crazy younguns buzzing around in grandpa's cart, but yes, they will be returning home in a few days. I have not really witnessed them all. The few I have seen were driving no more crazier than the older ones and at least I could hear them coming with their joyous noise.

I have posted this several times. It was spring break last year.

It's the same old thing, every holiday season when grandkids are here. Infants and toddlers are seated with the driver, kids well under 14 driving, children hanging off the back seat, without any seatbelts. Unfortunately, the people who should be paying attention to this don't bother, because there are NO PENALTIES heere for breaking the rules (just like another thread complaining about people saving seats in the squares). You can do whatever the hell you want here until there's an accident or, God forbid, serious injury, then you hear everyone screaming that something must be done. As with most other things around here, no one will stop you from doing anything. I guess that's why we're so "friendly." It's very, very sad.

Yep, I remember that. - actually it was June 2012 - but close enough. Those were college age guys. I actually meant young kids around 12-16 driving the carts but that is a great picture. The Daily Sun should run it every school vacation time as a reminder.

I can just imagine those boys explaining the accident to the parent or grandparent!

To all my friends on TOTV.

I think I remember that the POA Newsletter stated that 13 people have died in golf cart accidents in the last four or five years here in The Villages.

I have seen some pretty scary things with kids and golf carts. I want to count noses the end of March, and count all of yours AND know that your descendants are unscathed too. Please be a little mean to the grands when they are too little to be driving golf carts safely.
