Employee stated, "The numbers on the back don't match, they must be a pair. If not, we charge you $15". She was never able to explain to me WHY she charged $15 for one of the gate passes other than the numbers don't match. "You were told at closing not to lose your gate passes or you'd have to pay for them to be replaced". Well, I never lost either of them, yet I'm paying. Gave renter two new passes which were supposed to be free. You hand in two, they give you two back, free. So . . . . I asked the question, "Are you tracking us with those numbers?" She responded, "No, but if someone damages a gate, we can tell by the pass who was the last person through the gate". Interesting, I say. Never did get any sound explanation about the $15 charge. Sounds like a way to get alot of money out of all of us at some time or another.
SO>>>>>>>>>> Mark your gate passes! Don't mistakenly pick up the wrong one! Eventually, they will stop working and you'll need new ones. Don't feed the VCDD any money they don't deserve. Especially for the pointless gates. Turns out the gates don't make me feel special!!! Do they make you feel special?

Yes they do. Also they help me get across the street before getting run over by a car. Besides, look how much the unemployment in The Villages would go up if there were no gates!:cus:

Anyone notice that #9...whoever was driving the Entrypoint by Perry's truck might be helpful to talk to. I'm glad down here carts don't go through the gates but around. Although our gate has been taken off several times here in Sanibel I can guess who the culprits...especially when I watched to cement trucks go through together without stopping.

I think the gates are useful, but should allow the passing of golf carts, similar to the one at Bellvedere and 466, by the high school. I am also in favor of cameras at all points of entry and gates, but more for our security, then gate crashers. Most of the damage seems to be done by golf carts, shorten the gates to allow carts to squeeze by, but cars should stop for the safe passing of golf carts trying to cross the road.

In other words, we should "dumb down" our system to accommodate the careless, indifferent, illiterate, arrogant golf cart drivers in our midst. :cus:

I am fine with trying to find people who damage the gates pay for them. But one thing that is missing from all these posts is who pays vehicle owners when the gate prematurely comes down on the vehicle? In the 11 years I have been a Villager, this has happened twice to me. One time it left a scratch on the roof of my car and the 2nd time, it took off the rear mounted antenna. I was not tail-gating and used the gate pass... the gate went up and came right back down again as I was entering the gate. I never reported this because it would have been my word against theirs. But cameras would have been useful to prove instances such as these.

And, LOL, did you take note that the first video was a cart driven by a guy in a wife beater tea shirt. That set the tone for me.

Gates.

People never cease to amaze me, delight me, surprise me, annoy me and mistify me.

Why is it that gates have never given me one degree of rise to my blood pressure?

I don't care if "they" track me, I am not doin' anything wrong. I don't think that gates keep any bad people out, but they slow some people down.

Others need to be tethered to something.

i have a great visual image of "Villages Jail." They could put it in that empty Historic House and it would be just like the old Wild West!
