We were told they would give us a credit on that one and we would just pay the difference for the French door. So....we were under that assumption until the walk thru on closing day (Oct. 18th) when we informed that that policy had been cancelled 6 months ago and that we were not going to be able to exchange it. Don't you think he could've told us that before the walk thru??? I called Del Air myself to see if there was anything they could do and they said the Villages was not allowing them to do that anymore and had stopped that policy 6 mths. prior. Every appliance is linked somehow to that particular house and can not be exchanged. There is a house for sale right next door to us that has a French door, by the way. The realtor said 'he would put it out there' that he had a customer wanting to sell a 'brand new' refrigerator at a discounted price. Sure enough, another realtor came by and bought it for $344.00 less than what the credit would've been. We ordered a French door from Best Buy for $200.00 less than what Del Air would sell the same refrigerator for at builder prices. Seems a little like they have a racket going on. We were very disappointed in the way this was handled by the realtor and the sales dept.

I don't blame you for being disappointed. Sounds like the salesperson wasn't up to snuff on his/her info, or as mentioned above, the store had changed their policy.

You cannot switch out appliances on new spec homes.

You cannot switch out appliances on new spec homes.

We were very surprised about this in 2006 when we bought our spec home in Hadley.

I realized and absorbed that this place was not like what we left behind in Ohio.

I have since gotten over it.

They do it because it is easier and they don't have to deal with all of the rigamarole. I read this forum and I know SOME seniors, if they do it once, will someone change their minds again? Will there be lettuce leaves in the bin of the NEW refrigerator?

It is what it is.

They do not switch out appliances on new homes.

They also charge $250 for changes in a new build, those very few of you who have design meetings.

Deep breaths.

There are twenty standing in line behind you.

Luckily we have scraped together enough to pay cash, and can delete the applicances except for the built in cooktop and wall oven.

We have our design meeting Nov 25, so we are now counting the days. Hopefully there will be no bad surprises..... a bit nervous with prices going up as they are.

We shall see.... (fingers crossed!)
