In addition, people who ride their bicycles on the golf cart paths are too slow. I recently noticed 2 people on a tandem bike riding on Buena Vista where there is not shoulder for bikes or paths gold carts. Cars were slowing down and changing lanes to avoid them this was a very serious situation. Ride the bikes on the street in the neighbor hoods not on main roadways and again please stay off the golf cart paths.

They are not golf cart paths.....they are for biking, walking and golf carts to share. Golf cart only paths are on the golf courses :bigbow:

Bike Racks In The Squares

I ride my bike a lot around the squares and I don't see many or maybe even any bike racks around them. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spots or the racks aren't anywhere near where I'm stopping. Like someone else suggested, I use a light post or fence to lock my bike. There are bike racks at the rec centers.

It's a multi-modal genius. You can walk, run, bike, rollerblade, skip, and walk on stilts on them if ANYONE wants to!!! The only true golf cart paths without other than pedestrian travel allowed are on the GOLF COURSES! If you don't like it, move!

And should follow ALL the same RULES stop at stop signs, and stop lights, STAY out of the break down lane(on the streets) dont ride two abreast (motorcycles cant)

Thanks! I was hoping that was the case after seeing the first answer. My wife and I are also runners. If we don't have the ability to enjoy biking and running there we won't be moving to TV.
Outdoor fitness is very important to us. If we end up getting a place there we'll get a golf cart for sure. But we'll also bike a lot. Hopefully I won't run into the arrogant a** who said the paths are only for golf carts. lol

And thanks for actually answering my question.

Welcome! Ride your bikes anywhere you want...it's the law! Come join the The Villages Running Club every Tue, Thur, and Sunday mornings at Lake Sumter Square at 7am! Regardless of your speed, we have folks that will join you. We would be happy to run with you guys when you get here!

Do they have a place where you can lock them up near the squares?

Thanks in advance.

I ride my bike in the villages. There is a bike rack behind (along side) of the Panera Bread at Lake Sumter. I had to go and look for them. BTW - stay on the multi modal paths. I've seen bikes on the major roads like Buena Vista and Morris - IMHO they are crazy to drive on these roads.

I've learned people here are more distracted than other places looking at maps, talking, and when you add in health issues like "eye sight," I decided to stick to the paths. Of course some golfers think you have no place here too. Start at Rohan Rec Center - take the bridge over the highway - lots of biking trails south of the 44. Check the bicycle club out as well. Be safe - seriously - watch out for the other person! Best wishes. You will enjoy it.

News flash! every mode of transportation don’t stop at stop signs. Even walkers. If there nobody at intersection does it matter? I see even LEO’s roll through stop signs.

Now if you’re talking about 4 way stop when traffic
present, “LOL”, most don’t know who has right away, most don’t understand you’re not in line till you stop, and that should be behind or at least equal to stop sign. not out in the intersection.

Not true, I can carry my bags when golfing walking down the golf cart path.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to pass a slow golf cart on my E-bike, while riding the MULTI-MODAL PATHS.
