Default Calling all Brits!

Good Morning

My husband and I thinking of purchasing a home in the Villages so we can spend the winter months when I retire from my job as a high school headteacher in Yorkshire. We would welcome any information from British Villagers who spend time there in the Winter and whether it works well for them.

Regards
Janet

Default Welcome

I am not from Briton but British I know are happy here.

The only thing they miss is a good draught beer.

We do not have good draught beer In the Villages.

Our one Brew Pub closed from bad management. Too bad they had very good ales.

Hi Janet, we are not owners yet, but one day We have been visiting the villages for many years, and have quite a few friends here now.
Because of husbands job we have a few years to wait, but it wont be too long.
We used to own a home down in Kissimmee, but sold it to prepare for the future, this worked well, when we were not using it we rented it out, quite successfully! I am sure you will be able to do the same at the villages, I intend to do so.
Where in Yorks is your school? I went to school in Leeds, lived in Morley, and escaped south many years ago

Hi Janet. We emigrated here 40 plus years ago, and are in the process of moving permanently to The Villages. We have lived in Virginia all this time, but after visiting the Villages, can't wait to move (5 weeks!). My UK friends' only comment of disfavour, was the lack of late night entertainment. I guess you can leave Shangrila for that, but I can't say I missed anything. Hope to see ya. Sandra and Michael Randell (new residents of Buttonwood)

I have a British friend who has been living in TV for 6 mos of each year for 7 years now -- first with her husband and now by herself since her husband passed away. Her only regret is she can't stay longer. On the plus side for her, she goes back home for necessary surgery and avoids the hot, humid months.

I also have a British couple for whom I house watch who just recently purchased after renting here for several years. They seem quite pleased with not having to rent any longer. They love that they can leave their golf clubs, etc. here and know exactly where they are staying and what they are getting (sometimes rentals can be questionable). Right now they're in the process of purchasing a golf cart.

So, it sounds like it is a win-win for both my friend and my clients.

Most Brits I know walk a lot. Brit friends I met when on a tour in Costa Rica several years ago come here often. I've never known them to have an automobile here, nor even a golf cart. They walk everywhere, and absolutely adore it.

That said, they also love being able to get from their home in Dorset to the beaches along the Mediterranean coast with relative ease! They have interesting discussions each year about what they're going to do!
