Direct TV Vacation Mode
I just talked to Comcast and was told that the rules of their vacation mode plan is that if you turn off the system, it has to be for a minimum of 2 months and the charge is $50. Also, it has to be on fron DEC 15 for 3 months. As a retired snow bird who plans on going to my villa when I get the urge and have the time, I find this very constraining and expensive.
Does anyone know what the rules are for Direct TV, for snow birds? Thanks Bill From MA & Duval |

I believe that you are allowed 2 "off" periods per year. There may also be a maximum off period of 6 months (but not sure of the latter thing). There is no charge for this.

I believe that Directv will do a suspend service for a period of at least a month and up to six months. I think you can extend it longer by calling back. You turn it off and on at will, but they do like the one month period so it doesn't become a nuisance for them. You will receive an email about a week before it is due to restart to let you know that it will be restarting soon and will give you a phone number if you want to change the restart date.
We have two accounts because we want the National Networks because the Local Networks don't work out of state when we are traveling in our motor home. One account or the other is on suspend at any given time while the other is active. You can even do it on-line through an automated system if you like. I restarted the house account on-line when we arrived back in The Villages and within seconds it was up and running. You don't even have to talk with a person. |
