Just replaced the turntable motor in my GE over the range microwave yesterday...Gracie, as far as our Maytag washer...we have had it since 1975 and it still works/looks great with only one repair!

I agree with the original post. Ditto here. We have had at least one repair visit for each and every GE appliance in the house except the refrigerator and it has begun toi freeze items in the produce bins in the bottom of the unit, Our dishwasher was one visit away from qualifying for the GE lemon law. Seems like at purchase time we paid a few bucks more for better appliances, but these seem to be pretty standard, so I'm not sure, guess I shoud go back and review sales agreement.
In 2013 we are going to rplace all of the appliances, one every 6 months or year a part. Dang sure not in my budget, or affordability list, but just to combat the frustration we continue to have. I did not buy in The Villages for frustration ! Lifestyle, yes, frustration, no.

I have Whirlpool Gold and having problems. My refrigerator side by side has a side that won't stay open, after many complaints I got a new one and guess what it is still doing it. That was 3 months after we settled. My microwave did go up but I had bought the service policy so that was covered. I agree with you, never again and these are upgrades but I wonder if any of these are without problems. My icemake also gets stuck once in a while.

I have GE profile appliances, and I HATE THEM, GET WHIRLPOOL or something else, I heard good things about Kenmore. All I've had is problems too.

Kenmore/Sears doesn't manufacture their appliances. They are manufactured by other companies (GE, Whirlpool, LG, Maytag etc).
Before you buy a Kenmore, check the reliability of the company who actually manufactured it.

Our last House...builder put in Kenmore Stove and Microwave and Dishwasher. We bought a Maytag Refrigerator.

Year one...Microwave died. Replaced it with another Kenmore to match the stove.

Year 2- Kenmore dishwasher flooded...yeah floor damage to boot!! Replaced with a Maytag Dishwasher.

Year 2.5 Stove element snapped and sparks went everywhere...Bought a GE Stove. Second Kenmore Microwave died shortly after that. Bought a GE Microwave.

So those Kenmores were dead within 2.5 years of home purchase (it was a new home btw). When we left after year 7...all GE & Maytag appliances were working fine...including the 7 year old maytag refrigerator that never gave us one problem.

Now appliances can be a crapshoot. We are going to have all the SS whirlpools in the new home replaced with GE after closing, either through the installer or buy new and sell those. Our GE stove (not profile) was one we absolutely loved. It cooked correctly. The whirlpool in this lease house burns food :(((((

Basically when replacing appliances or having them put in ..do your homework..read lots of reviews...I've got the model list of what we will be putting in...no substitutions. And just because Profile is suppose to be better and costs more sadly doesn't make it so. I've seen bad reviews on those and good on regular GE. Just remember everything the builders put in they're getting at package discounts. If nothing else...check out consumer reports for that extra leg up in picking appliances. :)

Yeah..they made them to work and last back then :) I had a friend who still has her lady kenmore washer and dryer set!!

I have the Whirlpool Gold, too, Gracie. The stove: the coils now have thermostats that turn on and off throughout the cooking process, which makes almost everything take longer to cook (in my opinion). Coming from a gas range makes it all the more difficult. Oven is fine. When electric company came out for an energy survey, I was told by the tech that the stove is very energy wasteful and to use either the BBQ or slow cooker for best energy efficiency. The dishwasher silverware container does not hold enough silverware, and, due to "energy efficiency" does not fully dry the dishes. When the cycle is complete and you open the door, water drips out. Repair man said it's normal because the drying temp isn't high enough to dry the inside of the cabinet. The washer is "HE" but I've noticed that there is always residue visible on dark clothes, which means that it's always on lights but can't be seen. Another service call is in the works. BTW, I use TIDE HE and the cold water setting. The dryer? Well, it takes forever to dry clothes, and I've strung a retractable clothesline in the garage. This, too, is because it's "energy efficient", but Fields repairman said it's really just standard equipment in higher-end casing which is more expensive to the consumer. As I said, I'd trade all this junk in a minute if I could.

BTW, Maytag was bought out by Whirlpool Corp. a few years back. The Maytag plants were closed and all manufacturing sent to various Whirlpool plants (depending on the item being made). Now, there is actually very little difference among Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana, etc....all the same company.

To be a home owner you have to be able to fix some things yourself, I have GE appliances in my couryard villa and have had no problems also been using GE for about 20 Years and have had no serious problems

Isn't it strange that people are finding it difficult to find American appliances that are reliable? I can't think of any other product that hasn't had improved reliability. Think about how much better automobiles are today. And electronics. It's funny, we have a 1930's vintage GE refrigerator still working in our hunting camp in rural NY. The one with the cylindrical compressor on top. It just keeps on running, year after year. And our house in NY has a 20-year old Maytag washer and dryer set that have only required a dryer belt replacement in all those years. Why do current GE, Maytag, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, etc. products fail after only a few months? We are currently in the process of purchasing a complete set of stainless steel Samsung kitchen appliances. I never thought in a million years I'd be buying Korean appliances.

:sigh:Our Maytag washer bit the dust recently, we could have had it repaired but who do you calll? We wen t to Lowes and my wife picked out a GE. It was installed but she noticed, it was not cleaning the clothes. We talked to a friend and his new GE was not cleaning his clothes either. My wife went to Lowes talked to a salesman and a manager an d was told to pick out another machine, which she did, another Maytag. It was installed and worked to her satisfaction except for the water on the floor. We called and right away an installer came by and checked it out and left. Guess what ? It still leaked. Another call and this time a different installer came checked it out, on the rinse cycle, in the unit, it leaked from inside. He condemned the unit, My wife went back to the store and this time picked out a plain jane washer by Hotpoint which I think is owned by GE (Who knows) it washes . it cleans the clothes, she is happy and the everything is right in the world. Anyone else have a problem with their GE frig freezer where the drain line clogs. Pull off the back panel in the freezer and it is all iced up. Water will leak into the lower frig area instead of the rear drain line to the wall. Apparently, that drain line has a P trap like your sinks. Bugs (roaches) can get in there and clog it. Also, I suspect, due to the extreme hard water we have, deposits can clog it. This same problem can happen to your dishwasher.
