Agreed
that it takes almost (but not quite) twice as long to get somewhere by cart as by car, BUT I am usually in a better mood when I get there, and yes, parking is much easier, especially at the squares.
Again, depends on where you live. Most people find that they tend to do lots more activities near where they live. We're in Sabal Chase, which is going to be close to the geographical center of Largo when build-out occurs. We do a lot in the 9 rec centers that are within a 20 minute cart drive of here, about 7 of them within about 10 - 15 minutes. We also are only about 10 minutes by cart from the Morse blvd. bridge and Lake Sumter Landing and can get to Spanish Springs in about 20 minutes.
But there are advantages to living in almost any location, especially if it's near something that you use a lot. Think about this when you're buying - if you expect to use the wood shop 3-5 days a week, for instance, or one of the pottery studios at particular rec centers. Or if you know you love the Fitness Center in Spanish Springs and use it a lot. Those things probably aren't going to change.
Unlike many, I do go "up north" to golf, go to rec centers, visit friends and go shopping. Takes about 25 min. to Oakleigh/Amberleigh golf courses and about 30-35 min. to Mulberry (but 15-20 min. to Mulberry by car). There are some golf cart short cuts you learn after you're here awhile. Less than 20 min. from Sabal Chase to visit friends deep into Summerhill (north of 466) last night.
And, oh yes, we have an electric golf cart - 2 of them. I am more careful about taking the cart if I are driving at night, because the lights use a lot more battery power. If it's really cold, or raining, and we're going very far, we do take the car. Most of the stuff we do is during the day, however - we are too tired to do much at night :)
